Coscoran times well in Wannamaker Mile

-

ANDREW Coscoran of Star of the Sea AC ran a second sub four- minute mile in the space of a fortnight in the Wannamaker Mile race held at the famous Armory Track & Field Centre in New York.

His splits for the first 400m and 800m in were 0.3sec slower at both points than his mile run in Boston last month, but unlike the previous race where the pace dipped in the third quarter it was relentless this time as the athletes ground out another sub 60-second 400m.

Coscoran went through 1200m in 3:00.43 and this extra pace took some of the kick out of his legs even though he still finished with a 57.69sec final 400m to place 10th in 3:57.83.

This was still only 2.2 seconds behind the winner Chris O’Hare of Great Britain.

While he might be a little disappointed in his placing on Saturday, he was running in more exalted company than in his previous two races and has put together a great series of runs in the last three weekends.

Coscoran can now look forward to the Irish Championships in the National Indoor Arena in a fortnight’s time and has a chance to rewrite the result from last July at the National 1500m.

Meanwhile, at the All- Ireland Intermediate, Masters, ‘ B’ Uneven-age & Cross Country Relays the Meath Intermediate ladies, Master Men O-35 and U-13 Girls all won silver and the U-15 Boys took bronze at the Athletics Ireland

Intermediate, Master and uneven-age ‘ B’ Cross- Country Championships held in the grounds of Avondale House, Rathdrum.

The county’s Masters teams raced well, with great runs from brother and sister duo Ann-Marie Drake and George Snee who both led in their respective Meath teams.
