We know there’s lots of talent in our club so maybe you would be interested in representi­ng the John M’s in the Louth Scór. Maybe you would like to try the table quiz (teams consist of 4 people) and you are required to be over 17 years old (as this is for the Scór Sinsir) so that means it is open to senior players or non playing members. A great opportunit­y to represent your club .

Louth Scór evening is on Wed 26th Feb in Naomh Martin Hall and the evening starts of with the Table quiz at 8pm. The other categories are: Recitation/ Storytelli­ng, Ceili dancing, Set dancing, Ballad group, Instrument­al Music, Solo singing.

DRUGS MEETING IN MATTOCK

Community Drugs Awareness Brief for all parents in the area is taking place on Monday 17th February from 7-8.30pm, in the Mattock Rangers club room. All are welcome to come along.

SCOIL MHUIRE EXTENSION

Scoil Mhuire na Trócaire, Hale Street, Ardee is seeking permission for a single storey extension to the north of existing school, alteration­s to existing building and associated site works.

ROB STRONG IN HAMILLS

A true legend in the Irish music scene, Mr Rob Strong comes to Ardee on Sunday May 31. He is due to play Hamills on Bridge Street.

END OF AN ERA AS MATHEW’S PUB CLOSES

It is certainly the end of an era in Collon.

Last week it was announced that Tom has decided to retire, so closing the curtain on Mathews pub.

He has spent 68 years behind the bar - which opened in 1896 - but now it’s the end.

Tom, Richella and Desi would like to thank you all so much for your loyal custom and friendship over the years.

They added: ‘We want to thank all the wonderful staff that have worked with us behind the bar - far too many to mention - you were all wonderful. We have also decided that now is the right time to cease trading. We do so with a heavy heart but with so many wonderful memories’

The Market Bar, Drogheda & Members of the Louth County V. F. I . said they were sorry to hear the news.

‘Sad to see a pillar of the Collon Business Community hang up their boots and put away the beer glasses but we all have many a great memory of our times in Mathews of Collon.’

ARDEE TT AGM

Ardee Tidy Towns Group will be holding its Annual General Meeting (AGM) in Ardee Library, Market Square, Ardee Tuesday 18 February at 6:30 pm.

Ardee Tidy Towns embraces a broad scope of projects including biodiversi­ty sustainabi­lity, and improving our local walkways. We need your help and input.

All members of the community are invited to come along with there ideas and creativity.

CHARITY TRACTOR RUN

The Sean Loughran (RIP) Charity Tractor Run takes place on Sunday 16th February next, starting out from Teach Raithneach, Starinagh, Collon (Eircode A92 W283) at 12 noon. Registrati­on from 11 am onwards, with a vehicle entry fee of €20. Proceeds in aid of The Coronary Care Unit, Our Lady of Lourdes Hospital, Drogheda. Further details from 086 3874318 or 087 9580993.

BREXIT MEETING IN ARDEE

The implicatio­ns of Brexit may have far-reaching effects on Irish business. Louth County Council and the Local Enterprise Office are working hard to prepare SMEs for the return of customs controls.

Business owners and managers are invited to a free “Preparing Your Business For Customs” workshop in Ardee (12th Feb).

At the end of the workshop, business owners will understand the potential impacts and the formalitie­s and procedures to be adopted when trading with a third country. The workshop will highlight the Customs facilities available to importers and exporters, opportunit­ies to minimise import duty payments and ensure compliance with customs procedures.

DIVINE MERCY CONFERENCE.

The annual Divine Mercy Conference takes place in the RDS, Ballsbridg­e, Dublin on the weekend February 21-23rd.

A coach will leave Our Lady of Lourdes Church on Saturday February 22nd at 8.15am sharp. The cost is €15 return.
