THE Drogheda Aura Leisure Centres as well as DKIT Sport and Dundalk Aura, put their ‘ heart into fitness’ in 2019 and raised a whopping €20,200 for their charity partner, The Irish Heart Foundation.

Chairman of leading Irish health and fitness operator, The Aura Holohan Group, Gar Holohan, handed over the cheque to Mary-Anne Sweeney, Corporate Partnerships Manager with the Irish Heart Foundation.

“We are absolutely delighted to have doubled our fundraising target for the Irish Heart Foundation. Huge credit is due to our staff and customers for their dedication, commitment and generosity,” said Mr Holohan.

“Family and community are the core of both our company and the Irish Heart Foundation and we both have an aligned vision for a healthier and happier Ireland. By working together over the last year, we are further along in making both our missions a reality”.

The Group, which operates ten Aura Leisure Centres and four Anytime Fitness Clubs nationwide, DKIT Sport and Holohan Consultants (Leisure Consultancy and Events in Dublin) committed all of its 2019 annual fundraising efforts to support the Irish Heart Foundation’s work in a bid to raise vital funds to save lives and help support more families who have been affected by heart disease and stroke.

Intertwining fitness and fundraising, the group ran multiple events throughout 2019 on a local and national level from ‘swimathons’, ‘spinathons’, late night lake paddles and fitness classes, to table quizzes, movie screenings, bake sales and all sorts of fitness competitions, the group raised €20,200 for the IHF.

Every hour someone in Ireland suffers from a stroke. Every day, hundreds of Irish people are diagnosed with heart disease. And yet 80 per cent of premature heart disease and stroke is preventable.

“At the Irish Heart Foundation we are incredibly grateful to the Aura Holohan Group and their customers for their generous support over the past year,” said Mary-Anne Sweeney, Corporate Partnerships Manager with the Irish Heart Foundation. “This partnership has been a great opportunity to encourage communities to get some heart-healthy activity into their day while supporting our work. More than 80% of our income comes from people, communities and businesses like the Aura Holohan Group across Ireland – without their support we could not continue to save lives and support people affected by heart disease and stroke.”
