Sheelan’s double crucial for Cooley

COOLEY Kickhams came out on top against Young Irelands in a well contested Paddy Sheelan Cup Group C game which was played at the DkIT grounds on Sunday morning.
Two first half goals from corner forward Declan Sheelan proved vital as the peninsula side prevailed by five points in the end.
In terms of scoring chances, there was little between the teams but Sheelan’s eye for goal ensured that his team went in at the break with a 2-4 to 0-6 advantage. His first game on the quarter hour mark and the second arrived five minutes later.
Cooley, who also had Fearghal Malone, Brian White and Michael Carron among their scorers over the course of the hour maintained their advantage throughout the second period despite the best efforts of the Dundalk men. The Young Irelands did manage to get a goal back through Peter McStravick but it wasn’t enough to deny Cooley.
