FEIS Cup specialists Gaeil Colmcille will meet Wolfe Tones in this year’s decider following their respective semi-final wins on Sunday.

The Kells men, who were winners twice in recent years and lost the 2019 decider to Summerhill, overcame O’Mahony’s at Grangegodden, while Wolfe Tones had an equally impressive victory over Ratoath by 2-8 to 0-5.

A strong cross-wind made conditions difficult in Grangegodden, but it was the home side who recovered from a slow start to hold a 1-6 to 0-2 interval advantage. The Gaeil Colmcille goal came from Cormac Mattimoe on 26 minutes.

O’Mahony’s never threatened a revival in the second half as the hosts ended comfortable winners. Danny McGovern finished top scorer for the Kells side with five points.

The other semi was switched to Gibbstown due to unplayable pitches and hosts Wolfe Tones looked in trouble when only leading 0-5 to 0-2 despite the advantage of the elements.

However, they produced a much stronger second-half performance against what was an understrength Ratoath to emerge clear-cut winners. The goals proved crucial in the second half, with youngsters Oisin Martin and Evan Corrigan on target.

Corrigan pounced for the opening goal after a Padraic Diamond effort had rebounded off the crossbar and Diamond was also involved in the second goal which was finished to the net by Martin to end proceedings as a contest.

The Feis Cup is the one trophy that has eluded Tones down the decades and they will now be keen to add it to their haul.
