Ace athletes make their mark in Glenmore with double gold

TWO golds and plenty of other medal-winning performanc­es ensured a brilliant weekend for Ace AC athletes at Sunday’s Glenmore AC Cross-Country meeting.

Like Storm Dennis, the Drogheda-based athletes really made their mark despite the wet and windy conditions and first up Tayo Lawrence ran a fantastic 500m Under-9 race to finish in sixth place.

The Under-11 age group was next and there were fantastic runs by Lauren Faulkner and Kate O’Donnell, while their teammate Naiya Semple finished in a strong sixth place.

Nathan Robertson, running out of age in the Boys Under-11 event, finished in a very impressive fourth over the 800m distance.

The Girls Under-13 race was next and Chloe Hanley managed to gain her first cross-country medal when she finished in 10th place, with gold going to her inform clubmate Sholah Lawrence.

The boys were equally strong, with great runs from Tadhg Forde Dunne, Luca McLoughlin and Daniel Hanley behind Lorcan Forde Dunne, who placed second and

Rhys Clarke in seventh.

Shea O’Donnell ran brilliantl­y when he came fourth in the Boys Under-15 race, while Ella McLoughlin - who has shown steady improvemen­t with each race - really proved that hard work does pay off when she finally earned her first podium finish - third place.

The 2,000m Under-17 race saw Anna Faulkner finish second and Neil Culhane fourth, while killian McLoughlin finished off the day on a high for his club when he took gold in the Boys Under-19 4,000m.
