Love Drogheda hope those elected will work together
Dear Sir,
As an organisation committed to improving Drogheda and districts prospects, and with the General Election results now finalised, LoveDrogheda BID (Business Improvement District) welcome the increase in representation South Louth / East Meath now has .
We thank all the prospective candidates who had the courage to put their names forward in pursuit of a democratic mandate. For those who lost their seats, we commiserate with them, and thank them for the service they provided in the past.
We hope that those now entrusted with representing this area will work together to get what is best for this region. We, in turn, will make available whatever resources we can to help all of our elected representatives, both local and national, to achieve the very best for South Louth / East Meath.
We would remind all of our representatives of our view as expressed prior to the election, a view that we believe local voters identified with and used to decide on their final choice/s of candidate.
It is our opinion that South Louth / East Meath needs adequate Garda resources which needs to be coordinated solely from the Drogheda Garda Division. We need to push to provide more local jobs, and local education opportunities to end the environmentally unsustainable practice of consigning thousands of our residents to a life of commuting misery.
The PANCR (Port access,
Northern Cross route) has to be expedited.
This would go a long way towards easing our Housing crisis and improving our employment prospects. The return of Droghedas’ Town Council is essential for proper and fair, local, decision making. Remote management coordinated from Dundalk, Navan and Dublin has not worked.
In keeping with our growing population, Drogheda should attain City Status in the near future. Drogheda needs to be afforded the recognition that Irelands largest town deserves. It is illogical that the much smaller populations of Kilkenny, Newry, Armagh and Sligo etc. should have the title of a city, or be described as such, when Drogheda, which is almost twice the size of any two of these combined, is perennially ignored. These issues are clearly identified and recognised, it is now up to all of us to see that the change required happens with due haste.
Our public have clearly voted for change, now is the time to deliver on the promises.
