Mark and Bree shine at top Jiu Jitsu tournaments
A man who pleaded guilty to careless driving following a traffic accident has been fined €300 at Drogheda District Court.
Stephen Patrick Tembo (46) with an address at Woodland Avenue, Mosney was also accused of driving with no insurance or driving licence arising out of an incident at Cement Road, Drogheda on November 10th, 2018.
The court heard on the date in question gardaí observed a vehicle driven by the defendant collide with another vehicle on the Cement Road.
They subsequently spoke to the driver of the car who revealed he did not have insurance or a driving licence.
Tembo has five previous convictions including one for no insurance for which he was disqualified for two years.
The disqualification took effect on the same day this incident happened.
Defence solicitor Barry Callan said his client bought the vehicle on the day of the accident with the intention of selling it on.
He said Tembo is a 46-yearold Nigerian national who has been living in Ireland for the past seven years. He lives in direct provision at Mosney and is in receipt of €38 a week.
There was no major damage to the other car and no injuries as a result of the accident, Mr Callan said.
Judge Eirinn McKiernan imposed a fine of €300 and disqualified Tembo from driving for four years.
TWO members of the Primal Brazilian Jiu jitsu club in Drogheda starred at the most prestigious Brazilian Jiu jitsu tournaments in the world.
Mark Dowd (13) and a St Joseph’s student, took third place in the Pan Kids in California. In doing so, he became only the second Irish man ever to medal at the event. He narrowly lost to the current world champion.
Bree Hamilton, mother of three young kids. travelled over to Lisbon to compete in the European championships. Bree also took 3rd place.
Coach Ben Cunningham was delighted with both performances.
