Duleek’s tears for Adam O’Leary, a true warrior

THE community of Duleek lost an ultimate warrior last week with the death of Adam O’Leary.

For years, the village took Adam to their heart and his story was one of total resilience and courage.

Diagnosed with childhood cancer at the age of 5, he battled on, the cancer returning three times, but the fight remaining as intense as ever, right up to last week.

Then came a simple message from the social media page that had done so much to make his dreams come true ‘Adam’s Wish’ - simply stating, ‘It is with a heavy heart that we let you know that Adam has gained his angel wings. He is at peace now and will stay with us forever.’

From 2018 on, many contribute­d to make his dreams a reality - from cutting hair to racing horses, dancing to running.

A trip to Manchester United was one, and then the all clear to go to Florida for the trip of a lifetime.

He defied the doctors at times and continued to inspire those around him, until his death last week.

Some of those that had supported Adam and his family expressed their sorrow, ‘ heartbreak­ing news of such a wonderful warrior. Another bright star to light up the sky. No doubt he will be very near....heaven has gained a special angel . You will allways be in everyone’s hearts look over your Mam Dad and Jamie fly high Adam’ just two of the many, many comments.

He is sadly missed by his loving parents Chris and Rachel, brother Jamie, grandparen­ts Gerry and Ena, Thomas and Vivienne, uncles and aunts, cousins, relatives and friends.

His funeral was Saturday St. Cianan’s Church, Duleek.
