HUNTERSTOWN ROVERS 1-11

MATTOCK Rangers moved into second place in Group E of the Paddy Sheelan Cup when they defeated neighbours Hunterstown at Pairc Baile Fiach on Tuesday night.

In what proved to be a closely contested game, it was the visitors who prevailed as second half goals from Brian Corcoran and Craig English proved decisive.

The home side went into the game looking for their second victory of the competition and the signs were promising as a goal from Dean Burns and points from Glen Matthews had them leading by 1-2 to 0-2 at the break.

The result was in doubt for much of the second half as the sides traded scores but ultimately it was the goals from Englishby and Corcoran that were decisive in seeing Mattock leapfrog their opponents and into second place in the table.

KILKERLEY Emmets finished runners-up in Group E of the Paddy Sheelan Cup after defeating St Marys at DkIT on Thursday night.

The Emmets trailed by a point at the break but a strong second half display saw them emerge with a comfortable win.

The Marys went into the game having already secured top spot in the group with two wins in their opening two fixtures. Despite making a number of changes to their starting line-up they were in good form in the first half and went in at the break with a 0-6 to 0-5 advantage. Shane Lennon, Tadhg McEneaney and Patrick Murtagh accounted for the Emmets points.

However, it was Kilkerley who dominated the second period and outscored their opponents by 13 points to three to emerge with a victory that put them ahead of Mattock Rangers on score difference. By the time the full-time whistle sounded Lennon had brought his total to seven points, while McEneaney finished with six. Jonathan Commins top-scored for the Marys with four points. O RAGHALLAIGHS SEAN O’MAHONYS 4-8 0-12

O Raghallaighs cruised past the Sean O’Mahonys to qualify from Group B with a 100% record.

Goals from Ben Smyth and Bryan Smyth as well as a double from man of the match Eoin Moore saw the Drogheda side power past the men from the Quay with plenty to spare on Saturday evening. The result leaves the Dundalk side pointless after three games and ends their interest in this year’s competition.

O Raghallaighs began the game strongly and took the initiative early on when Eoin Moore showed great strength and skill to hold off his marker before rifling a ball into the bottom corner of the net. The O’Mahonys were second best for most of the opening half but the boot of Barry Mackin kept them in touch as he nailed three successive frees to keep his side in the game.

However, O Raghallaighs grabbed the game by the scruff of the neck in a devastating five minute spell during which they scored two goals. The first goal came after a mistake in the O’Mahonys defence which midfielder Bryan Smyth punished by scoring the O Raghallaighs second goal to put the visitors 2-4 to 0-5 ahead.
