NOAMH FIONNBARRA 0-8

ST Brides made it three wins from three in Group F of the Paddy Sheelan Cup when they defeated Naomh Fionnbarra at Darver on Friday night.

The result means that the Knockbridge side finish top of the group ahead of St Kevins who took the runners-up spot after defeating Dreadnots in their final outing.

This was the third group game in the Sheelan Cup for the Barrs and despite an improved performance, it was also the third defeat to leave them bottom of the table.

The game was played in extremely wet and windy conditions in Darver where the Barrs with the elements to their back, dominated the first half to take a 0-6 to 0-2 interval lead.

The Knockbridge men dominated in the second half the Bride’s reeled in the Togher men and went on to claim a four-point win despite the best efforts of the Barrs. ST KEVINS DREADNOTS 2-13 0-10

ST Kevins are through to the quarter finals of the Paddy Sheelan Cup thanks to an excellent victory away to the Dreadnots. Both sides came into the game with one win and one loss each in group F and the permutations were simple for this game on Saturday afternoon. The winners would progress from group F while the losers would bow out.

The Dreadnots opened up the scoreboard with two points in the first couple of minutes with Pepe Smith scoring the second with a well taken free. However, a goal from Evan Doheny who capitalised on a mistake in the Dreadnots defence, quickly took the Philipstown men ahead. Evan Doheny, Enda McKenna and Patrick Clarke extended the visitors’ lead before the Dreadnots finally got going towards the end of the half to score two unanswered points. That left the half time scoreboard reading 1-4 to 0-4 in favour of the Kevins.

The second half opened with a point from Patrick Clarke not even a minute from the starting whistle, followed quickly by a point from Evan Doheny.

The Philipstown men retained consistent possession throughout the second half, rarely giving the Dreadnots an opportunity for conversions.

This was mainly due to some fantastic work displayed by the defence, consisting of Patrick Duff, Finbarr Lynch, Eoin McKenna, Dylan Maher and Enda McKenna, and midfielders Aaron Khan, Thomas Gregory and Andrew Campbell.

The Clarke brothers proved to be a formidable pairing particularly during the second half when James fed through a skilful opportunity to Patrick, which resulted in a point.

The Dreadnots threatened to mount a comeback as Craig Shevlin, Nathan Sutherland and Pepe Smith all scored in quick succession but that proved to be a false dawn as the visitors finished on a high with Patrick Clarke scoring a fantastic goal, a great finish which was preceded by a fantastic display of skill from Seanie Crosbie and Cian Callan.

ST KEVINS: Brandon Johnson; Patrick Duff, Finbarr Lynch, Eoin McKenna; Dylan Maher, Enda McKenna 0-1, Aaron Khan; Andrew Campbell 0-1, Thomas Gregory; Shane Meade, Cian Callan 0-5, James Clarke 0-1; Evan Doheny 1-1, Patrick Clarke 1-4, Liam Boylan. Subs: Brian Callaghan for P Duff, Seanie Crosbie for T Gregory and Conor Rogers for J Clarke, James Kieran for E Doheny.
