Under-13s sparkle after a ‘Tarf day at office

-

BOYNE Under-13s overcame a heavy, muddy pitch and a biting cold wind to defeat Clontarf 29-5 in their Leinster League Section D home match on Sunday.

They amassed five tries, with Evan Whyte going over out wide, Cian Hermitage touching down after picking off the back of a scrum and Connor McCulloch, Lorcan Butler and Robert Wogan scoring from close range.

There was good work in the first half in the scrum from Finn Brodigan and a special mentions go to hooker Rueben Tracey for his impressive tackling and

Liam Dorey for landing a conversion that bounced up and over after hitting the crossbar.

Meanwhile, the sun came out and the wind dropped for Boyne Under-10s’ latest mini blitz against teams from Skerries and Balbriggan at Drogheda Grammar School.

Boyne Lions kicked off into a bright sun against Skerries 1 and quickly touched down for the first score of the game thanks to storming runs by Seb Hughes and Jack Willis. That dynamic duo went on to impress across all three games.

Skerries were quickly into their stride, but some robust defending ensured Boyne remained in the game.

The ever-improving Eli Murphy was lightning quick to the breakdown, feeding hungrily on any loose balls, and that was his theme for the day. George Mathews displayed similar skills, while also demonstrating his knowledge of the quickest route to the try line.

In match two against Skerries 2 Boyne continued to display some great skills both in defence and attack.

Charlie Black powered over in the corner for a try early on to give the home side momentum, and another standout player was Finn Faulkner who was a nuisance to the opposition in all three games in defence and attack.

The pattern continued in the final match against Balbriggan, with Roko Jelavic coming into his own and showing great skill in both tackling and running. The ever-present Sam, in his distinctive scrum cap, proved very effective in attack in terms of metres gained and also made sure to get his tackles in.

Overall, it was another successful blitz for Boyne, with all the players displaying great determination and improvement week on week - and a special mention goes to Seb’s dad Nick Hughes for his words of encouragement from the touchline throughout.
