Mary Leech celebrated her birthday in some style when setting a new Masters age category record, finishing sixth in the Senior Women’s 800m in 2:21.22.

Mark O’Shea did likewise when he just missed out on a medal, finishing fourth in the Senior Men’s 800m in 2:01.99.

One of the highlights of the day had to be Hugh Callan’s fabulous performance in the same 800m where he ran a massive PB to finish 5th in 2:03.56 - just reward for the hard work he’s put in in training over the winter.

D&D’s only competitor in the Women’s 3K event was Ciara O’Reilly who coped well with running 15 laps of the track to take bronze in her W2 event in 12:10.05.

Closer to home, more than 60 members made the short journey to Clogherhead for Sunday’s Seaside 5K and this turned out to be a well-attended race, with conditions on the day good for racing.

Tadhg Donnelly showed just how well his training is going with a fine run which saw him finish second overall in an eye-opening 15:58, not far behind the winner, Sean Doran from Clonliffe Harriers who finished in 15:42.

Next in was Brian Martin in third place in a solid 16:55, followed by young Liam Mulligan in fourth spot in 17:06.

Ruaidhri Nolan used his local knowledge to his advantage, running a clever race to finish sixth in 17:17, with the rapidly improving tighter inside

Rodney Thornton close behind in seventh in 17:40.

Making a welcome return to racing was Shane Larkin who was 10th in 17:50, with Paul Reilly in 20th place in 19:30.

First of D&D’s ladies to finish was Kate O’Reilly, third in the Women’s race in 22:01, and this girl is one to watch out for in the future.

Yvonne McMahon was seventh place in 22:48, followed by Karen Delaney who was ninth in 22:52. Also running well was local girl Bernadette Matthews who was 12th in 23:10, with Nuala Reilly 13th in 23:14.

Others who ran included Anna Isgro, Elva Maree, Yvonne Lambe and Carmel Anne Mooney.

Earlier in the week, at the NIA Live Meeting in Abottstown, Harry Caffrey placed fifth in Heat 1 of his 400m in 58:26, while Cormac Canning won Heat 2 in 53:98 and in the Mile race Shane Russell had a solid run to finish fifth in 4:53.53.

Meanwhile, out in Oldbridge at the weekly parkrun, D&D’s first finisher was regular competitor Tony Corcoran - 12th overall in 24:03 - followed by Linda Bowe who was 59th in 41:40 and Michele McCullough (60th in 41:43).

Further afield, at last Saturday’s BHAA Central Bank 4 Mile CC which was held at Wesley College, Dublin, Colm Reilly put in a spirited run to finish 33rd overall in 26:32, with Gerry Mullins 111th in 31:56. Arch rival Conor Cooney was 120th in 32:22, while prolific racer Nuala Reilly was 127th in 33:04.
