Matthews lay down a marker

-

MATTHEWS proved they will take some beating in the upcoming Fosters Duleek & District League Division 1 League decider when whitewashing one of the other silverware hopefuls Pheasant last Friday night.

The Collon men made mathematically certain of their passage straight into the final with the easy victory over third-placed Pheasant. With Foxs also through to the knockout stages that just leaves a three-way fight between Hill Bar, Thatch C and Grennans for the last qualification place.

In Division 2 Fair Green’s impressive win at second-placed Valley Inn means they’re almost certain to join the Dunleer men and leaders Carranstown B in the knockout stages, leaving Black & White and Watters to fight it out for the last place.

With two rounds still remaining, the four qualifiers in Division 3 are already decided, with first-placed Barney Macs joined by Nolans, Mariner B and Maguires.

There were no games in the Premier Division last week owing to the National Inter-County Championship taking place, but the penultimate round of fixtures goes ahead this week with five of the six teams still having something to play for.

Meanwhile, the countdown has begun to this coming Sunday’s League Doubles Competition in

Drogheda’s Westcourt Hotel.

Check-in time is from noon to 1.30pm, with the action starting at 2pm sharp, and there is still time to enter. The deadline is this Thursday, with the draw taking place at 8.30 that evening in the Carranstown Lodge, Duleek.
