Drogheda Independent

‘Will another tragedy really right all the wrongs?’

-

Drogheda, the town that I love so well,

Ohhh what is happening to turn it into this modern day hell? Drugs, feuds & tit for tat crime,

The most historic town has now entered 21st century war time.

The seat of the Ancient East & indeed our very oldest Irish town, Drogheda was the beginning of the Irish revolutionary freedom crown,

Steeped in culture & ruins that run deep,

In our little town today PEACE we’re struggling to keep.

Tension in Moneymore-We’re scared to answer the door, Turn away from revenge-Today please don’t seek to settle that score!

Gaze into the eyes of some mothers son,

Don’t pull that trigger,PUT DOWN THAT GUN!

Innocent kids being lured into this gangland fight, Drugs & insecurity clouding their future potential foresight, Money, greed & ‘MY’ patch of turf,

What’s the point of it all when you end up in the dirt?

Drug debts, terrorists & petrol house bombs, Will another tragedy really right all the wrongs?

Anger may burst through your veins,

I beg you to wait a while longer don’t impulsively act out your pains,

An eye for an eye and a tooth for a tooth,

DON’T lose your life DON’T destroy your youth.

From the busy West Street shopping mall,

To Oliver Plunketts head in St. Peters-’PEACE’ from the depths of my heart I call.

Peace I advocate and Peace I plead,

Today CHOOSE life over death & greed.

Drogheda I love you with all of my heart,

Let’s pray this day a bright new future we will start,

We won’t lose our town to drugs

& war,

This town is a town worth FIGHTING for.
