CATHAOIRLEACH of Ardee Municipal Council, Dolores Minogue, has praised the businesses in the region who have said they will deliver shopping to those in the community who do not wish to leave their homes.

A number of clubs and organisations have also committed to assist where needed.

She has also urged people to buy local to help shops and premises suffering at the moment.

‘Look out for our elderly and vulnerable neighbours,’ she urged. ‘Everybody doing a little bit will help a lot. All this will have an impact on the mental health of many people and we have to be aware of that as well. We must keep calm and channel our fears into helping others and making sure we are part of the community effort.’

For those with a council issue, she urged them to ring or email and avoid going in person into the offices in Ardee.

‘I will also be looking at asking the council for a rates freeze or some efforts to help businesses, who are going to really suffer for months because of this,’ she added. Meanwhile, Ardee/Collon parish has issued a statement. ‘Regarding Baptisms, Weddings and Funerals, please contact the Parish Office for details. E-Mail ardee.collon@ gmail.com, facebook Parish of Ardee- Collon, or phone (041 685 0920). The motivation for these new restrictive measures is a sense of care for the common good and especially for those most vulnerable.

‘In the current emergency situation, all are dispensed from the obligation to physically attend Sunday Mass. It is possible to participate in Mass via local radio and online. For example, on LMFM Sunday mornings after the 9.00am news, www. radiomaria.ie, www.EWTN.com and www.dunleerparish.ie (webcam)

‘In these difficult and uncertain times, people find strength, consolation and hope in prayer. The Churches will remain open for prayer each day.

We should pray also for those in the frontlines – especially doctors, nurses and medical staff and other carers, including clergy .’
