Pubs and restaurants in Drogheda were amongst the first in the country to take matters into their own hands on Saturday, taking the tough decision to close in the interest of public health and the safety of their staff.

A number of local businesses and organisations have also been doing their bit to ensure no one is left isolated or without the help and support that they need.

As the nationwide lockdown continues, and all pubs and clubs nationwide close, social media has been flooded with messages from local groups and businesses all over town and beyond offering to do what they can to help out the community in difficult times.

St Colmcilles GAA Club aare providing a Covid 19 Pandemic assistance facility.

The club said: ‘ St Colmcilles are aware of the potential hardship the recent situation regarding Covid-19 may bring to elderly or vulnerable people in the area.

‘We are in the process of setting up a facility whereby people can call us if they require assistance acquiring food, fuel or other necessities such as medical prescriptions etc’

The club went on to say it is hoping to set up a small group of volunteeers who will travel to shops etc and make sure nobody in the area is left isolated during the next few unprecedented weeks.

The Boyne Fishermen’s Rescue and Recovery Service has also offered their services and assistance to any elderly or vulnerable people within the local community.

The group said they were willing to help get supplies including fuels, medication and foods to anyone in need while the social distancing regulations continue.

They have provided two numbers, 086 844 0993, 041 980 4876 which are available 24 hours a day, seven days a week.

The group said they will follow all rules and regulations from the HSE, Has and the government.
