Hannah home at long last

- By ALISON COMYN

AFTER two years, 11 months and 14 days (not that anyone was counting every second), the bravest young woman in Drogheda is finally back home for good!

Hannah ‘ The Warrior Princess’ made the short trip last Thursday from Our Lady of Lourdes hospital to her home in Newfield, where she was welcomed back by her loving family.

‘We are so delighted with ourselves, and it is such a relief to have her home, with everything that is going on at the moment,” says her mam Pearl Lambe.

“Hannah is just beaming, and it happened so quick, but they figured she is much safer at home now with her family.”

Visitors are limited to keep Hannah safe at the moment, but she is getting all the messages from everyone around the town.

It’s been a long and protracted battle to get to this amazing moment, but the future now looks brighter for this wonderful teen from the comfort of her own room at last.

Her family described the special day as the ‘start of a new beginning’.

Her dad Mike Donnelly added a special word of praise for all those who had looked after Hannah during her time away from home.

“A massive thank you to all the nurses and doctors who have taken such good care of Hannah in Our Lady of Lourdes, Drogheda. Stay safe there and we will miss you all,” he said.

“Another massive thank you to everyone who fundraised, supported, and helped us get Hannah’s home. This is the start of new beginnings.”

The last time Hannah spent a night in her own bed was last November, when she got out of hospital for one special time, where her mum said she was beyond happy and excited.

Lack of funding from the HSE for the specialist, round-the-clock care Hannah needed was the obstacle,

Her family had been campaigning to get the 19-year-old home in time for last Christmas, ever since there were complications with an operation in Temple Street Hospital on 29th March 2017.

But the good news of a care package finally same through at the end of January, meaning the countdown could finally begin.

While everyone is thrilled to have Hannah home – not least the brave teen herself – especially happy is her little sister Keelin (10), and at last the two sisters are reunited under one roof.

“We cannot believe it and we just want to say a massive thank you our local community and everyone who fundraised and supported Hannah and helped us get her home” added Pearl.

“I have to say a massive thank you to local TD Imelda Munster for fighting Hannah’s corner. I honestly don’t think we would be getting home without her help. To everyone who helped us, we will never forget what you guys have done.”
