CLOVERHILL
THE weather was very kind this time around as Club Captain Justin Byrne commenced the golfing season at Cloverhill by hosting his Drive-in. Despite a lot of heckling and being put under pressure from a renowned source Justin raised the bar with a drive of distinction straight down the middle to mark the ceremonial Drive-in with honour.
The competition following the Drive-in proved to be a great one for lapsed members returning to the fold as they featured prominently in the podium finishing teams. Less than a shot separated the top three side with only point one between second and third. Benny Tierney, Ruairi Murchan and Dundalk duo Brendan O Rourke and Frank Ryan took third place that fraction behind Runners-up Tipperary’s own John Kelly, David Rafferty and Dundalk’s Joe Carroll. But there was no denying the winning quartet skippered by Dundalk’s Stephen Markey accompanied by Carlingford’s Gerry McShane, Shane Muckian and Gerard Loye who topped the lot to cap a great start for the 2020 golfing season.
This weekend is the March Monthly Medal and there’ll be a Green Tee St Patrick’s Day Open competition today (Tuesday).
The competition is open to members and visitors alike with booking essential. Tee times may be booked via the club BRS Booking System or by phoning 30889580 for a time slot. There will be a complimentary Bowl of Irish Stew accompanied by Wheaten Bread for all golfers. Entry Fee is Members £7 Visitors £10.
Fr Kevin Cullen visited the winner’s enclosure for the first time in quite a while as he took the honours in round five of the Seniors Spring League. This win puts Kevin back in contention as they trey to reel in overall League Leader Seamus McCoy as the sixth and final round of competition takes place this Thursday.
