MANNAN CASTLE

THE course was in super condition for the first men’s 18-hole competition of the year the weekend before last. Thanks to all the volunteers who have been doing tremendous work on the course, getting it ready for the 2020 golf season, in conjunction with our green-staff.

Most members played on Sunday when conditions were slightly wetter and windier that Saturday. Some fantastic scoreswere brought in, with four players carding 40 points.

It was steady Eddie Rouiller (19) who won the competition playing tremendous golf, with seven pars on his card, but then John Minnock (15) had 10 pars to take second place and Derek Yorke (17) in third place had seven pars.

Michael McCartan, also with 40 points, was beaten on the countback didn’t even feature in the prizes.

Last Tuesday Mannan the seniors had their final outing before Senior Captain Joe Mullen’s Drivein. Peter Sloan (21) returned to the winners’ enclosure after a long absence with 21 points. Despite a three-point deduction for his recent win Terry Doherty (25) took second place with 19 points.

We hope to see as many seniors as possible at the Senior Drive-in next Tuesday (24th). The draw for the scramble will be at 11.30 on Tuesday morning.

MANNAN LADIES

THE final 13-hole singles competition was hotly contested in both categories, with each decided on a countback. It can’t be coincidence that many of the top scores came in the part of the day with bright and breezy conditions.

Last Wednesday saw the last ball struck in this year’s Spring League, kindly sponsored by Philly’s School of Motoring, Mullenderg, Emyvale, Monaghan. Well done to each and every one who played over the last six weeks, when the weather threw absolutely everything at us. Even so, it was neck and neck between a number of teams going into the final week.

This year we added an extra incentive to play by adding a category prize for those players who played great golf over the six weeks but weren’t on a winning team.

So congratulations to all the Spring League category winners: Category A Marie Finnegan (15) 104pts, Category B Jo Barry (20) 112pts, Category C Angela Gartlan (22) 95pts, Category D Ali Ellis (28) 93pts, Category E Carol McMahon (34) 98pts.
