1968 - DEATH OF MAUDE MCGEE
The death occurred on Friday at her home in Ardee of Mrs. Maude McGee, in her 82nd year.
She was chairman of Messrs. McGee’s of Ardee, being predeceased by her husband, Mr. Thomas L. McGee in 1949. Her passing has evoked sincere regret over a very wide area, particularly in Ardee, where she was well known for her charitable ways and support of many local causes. She had not been in good health in recent months.
Mrs. McGee was mother of the company’s joint managing directors, Messrs. Patrick V. and Thomas J. McGee. She was also mother of Mrs. John Kieran, Cardistown; Mrs. Patrick Halpenny, Riverstown; Mrs. Brendan McDonnell, Mullacloe, and Mrs. Bernard Halpenny, Riverstown. Another daughter, Mrs. Marie Shannon, died in rocent years.
Back at the turn of the century, Mrs. McGee’s husband took over the McGee business, established by Henry McGee in 1817. By this time, the motor car had appeared on the Irish roads, and in 1910, T. L. McGee opened up one of the first garages in the country.
Two years later, McGee’s moved outside Ardee for the first time when a garage was opened in Drogheda. On the death of her husband, Mrs. McGee continued to take a keen interest in an expanding business and today the McGee Group of Companies include not only Ardee and Drogheda, but Dublin, Belfast and Navan. The name by which the firm has now become so well known throughout Ireland, McGee’s of Ardee, was long in use, but it wasn’t until a little more than 15 years ago that it was registered. Last year, the firm celebrated its 150th anniversary in business.
Mrs. McGee is also survived by a sister, Miss Edith O’Reilly, Dublin.
The remains were removed on Saturday evening to St. Catherine’s Church, Ballypousta, and the funeral, at which there was a very large and representative gathering, took place on Sunday to the adjoining cemetery. MID LOUTH MEN’S SHED
THE Men’s Shed project has done so much to help males right around the country and the group at the Mid Louth Men’s Shed are no different.
The group are based in Philipstown and meet on Monday nights from 7-9pm and on Wednesday morning from 10.30am to 1pm.
All men are welcome and the atmosphere is very friendly and relaxed, come in, get a cup of tea, have a chat, play pool, cards, table tennis or watch the rest do it!
But most of all, call in and new members very welcome.
Events will get back to normal in late March.

DARKNESS INTO LIGHT ARDEE/COLLON
Darkness into Light will return to Ardee for its third year on Saturday morning, May 9th at 4:15am. With preparation under-way, the organisers are hoping to beat last years’ turnout of over a thousand men, women and children from across the parish.
The Ardee Committee for Darkness into Light are also looking for volunteers to help the committee and during the event itself. All help is welcome and If you are interested, please don’t hesitate to contact ardee@darknessintolight.ie.

A conscience is what hurts when all the other parts feel good.
At this stage we all know it is in Ireland. So, we really must be extra careful and wash our hands more frequently than before. And, ladies AND gentlemen, please keep a hankie near you, up your sleeve on in your pocket for those little coughs and sneezes that you are doing and also other people doing them near you. It is up to us to contain it and not let it spread, just a little thoughtfulness and consideration. Thank you.

BEWARE OF BOGUS GARDA CALLING. CHAEROBICS.

Recently, a “Garda” dressed in full uniform, warrant card etc. called to several homes in the Clogherhead area.
On gaining entry to the houses, he proceeded to tell the occupant that any money they had was illegal and he would take it from them and bring it to the Garda Barracks and return with legal tender.
At this point, he was asked to leave but when he went the people in the houses were shook up and more afraid than when he was with them.
You never know what will happen.
These incidents happened in broad daylight and people were in their homes alone. It is very important that doors are locked and safety chains ON and you should have your personal alarm on you and not on the fireplace or your bedside locker.
Perhaps it might be an idea if you have an elderly person living alone near you, to call and see if they are OK. I know the elderly are fiercely independent but just try them anyway, and if you suspect wrong doings going on just lift the phone and tell the Garda. Thank you.

Prayer cards have been delivered to both schools in the Parish for every child. Prayer cards have been distributed at Masses and more cards are also available in the churches.
During Lent the Stations of the Cross will be offered in St Michael’s before Mass (8.40am) on Friday’s and in Walshestown at 7 pm every Friday. A 9-day Novena to St Patrick will commence on Monday 9th March in St Michael’s Church after 9am Mass. Watch this space throughout the year for further events.
