-

Sensational Gerry Sheridan !

LOUTH Masters made up for their All Ireland semi final defeat by winning the shield competition at Longford On Saturday.

It was welcome reward for the ‘ Masters’ who went down to Kildare in the All Ireland proper after suffering defeat in the final two years ago.

Starting with the wind at their backs, Louth led 0-5 to 0-2 at half time and added two more on the resumption before Tyrone hit a purple patch to leave just a point in it with 10 minutes left.

Having missed a penalty for the second time in the match, the wee county must have feared for their hopes but they showed commendable courage and skill to tame the Tyrone fightback and landed some lovely points, none better than from captain marvel, Gerry Sheridan from Glyde Rangers.

Gabriel McKenny from Ardee was a rock solid full back throughout with Terry Lennon, Gerry Sheridan starring.

Dreadnots beat Kevin’s

After losing out in the opening round of the Championship, the Dreadnots ended their League campaign on a high when a five point victory over the Kevins gave them a place in the top four.

While the result was satisfactory, the Dreadnots will have to improve if they are to win the title as they made hard work of dismissing a Kevins side with nothing to play for.

Failing to impress in the first half, the Dreadnots led by just 0-5 to 0-4, and it took a second half goal from Kevin Dawe before they finally took control, eventually securing both points with five points to spare.

The Dreadnots can thank Kevin Dawe, Denis Kelleher and Padraig Califf, in particular, for this victory

Lannleire Dreadnots 2-6 0-10

1992 league Champions, Lannleire, qualified for this seasons decider with a hard fought, win over the Dreadnots, with two second half goals proving the difference between the sides.

The Dunleer side began on top but despite having the majority of possession they proceeded to waste chance afler chance, allowing the Dreadnots to stay in the game.

The Clogherhead side took advantage of Lannleire’s lapses in front of goal and they took control with some fine kicking, particularly from Kevin Dawe who kicked five of the sides seven points, to lead 0-7 to 0-4 at the interval.

Lannleire continued to have most of the play in the second period, but again their shooting was extremely poor and they could only add two further points during the half.

However two goals midway through the half proved decisive, despite the best efforts of Dreadnols, firstly Noel Callan hit the net followed by another when Matthew Martin got the slightest touch to deceive the Dreadnots ‘ keeper.

Cooley kept up their push for an ACC Cup final place after scoring a narrow victory over St. Fechins on Saturday night.

Cooley seemed to have taken control in an entertaining first half as they led 0-8 to 0-3 after 25 minules, however, three quick points and a goal from Ollie Reilly in the dying seconds gave the Fechins a 1-6 to 0-8 lead.

In their final preparation belore the National League campaign, Louth played host to a strong Down side at the Clans and saw a weakened side eventually go down by 14 points, 0-18 to 0-4.

Although the Louth camp can point to the fact that they fielded just three of the players which started in the Leinster Championship, Ken Rooney, Dermot Duffy and Davy McDonnell, against a side which contained 14 of Down’s Ulster Championship learn, the heavy defeat gave them little encouragement for the clash with Galway on Sunday.
