THE National Community Call Initiative was announced by Government on Thursday 2nd April.

The Community Call Initiative links local and national government with the community and voluntary sectors to combat the challenges faced by people in complying with COVID-19 restrictions. Its purpose is to co-ordinate community activity, direct community assistance where it is needed and marshals the volunteering energy of the Country with a particular focus on the elderly and the most vulnerable.

The dedicated Community Call Helpline established and operated by Louth County Council is operational since 30th March from 8am to 8pm daily. The service is available on the FREEPHONE Number 1800 805 817. Requests can also be emailed to covidsupport@louthcoco.ie .

Louth Community Call Forum has prepared a localised Information Resource containing useful local and national contact numbers and advice for those who may require assistance as a result of the national crisis.

The resource encourages individuals to record their own personal information which may be useful in the event of an emergency.

Commenting on the establishment of the Co Louth Community Call Forum, Joan Martin, Chief Executive, Louth County Council who chairs the Forum confirmed ” I have committed a considerable resource from within my organisation to manage the call centre and to co-ordinate the Community Response at this time of national emergency.

‘ I am delighted with the cooperation and support that I am receiving from Forum members who are partnering with us in this endeavour.

‘ The well established collaborative relationships that exist in County Louth between statutory, NGO’s and the Community and Voluntary sector are now paying dividends and many groups and individuals are answering the Community Call”.
