There is an opportunity presently to wear the Green Jersey in more ways than just in respect of Covid-19. We all should make an effort to buy Irish, and shop local where possible. Businesses are being tested to the limit presently, and could do with the support of their Communities. They are providing excellent services to their Communities in the most extraordinary of times, and deserve to be supported. Now is the time to be patriotic, ‘ Buy Irish and Shop Local’.

LITTERING

The numbskulls just don’t get it! Protective face masks and protective gloves are among the items disposed of along a number of roads recently. At a time when the nation is playing a blinder in the fight against Covid-19, individuals act recklessly by disposing of Protective Equipment in the most irresponsible manner. (3) Chord Drogheda

(4) The High Level

(5) In a Supplement to the History of Mellifont by Very Rev. Francis Canon Carolan, and printed in the Drogheda Independent in 1943, he quotes the late John Morley, on Cromwell’s massacre at Drogheda who said: “Cromwell knocked every Friar in Drogheda on the head except three, and they were captured and sent to Barbadoes”. He goes on to say:

‘There is a tradition in Strinagh, (note spelling) near Collon, that two monks were martyred in the Cromwellian massacre in Drogheda and that their bodies were carried to Crockanern (Patron Cross) where they were interred and an oak tree was planted over their grave. This oak tree can still be seen on the South side of the cross, facing the road to Collon.’

The collecting of the oral traditions and oral literature of our country is of great importance.
