CORONAVIRUS.

There is not much more that can be said. The current pandemic shows no sign of abating and therefore we must continue to abide by Government and HSE restrictions. When shopping locally, or exercising it is critical that we observe the appropriate distance from each other as well as keeping within a short distance of our homes. Following a request from the Gardai to block certain spaces in line with Government restrictions due to COVID 19, Louth County Council announced the closure of a number of public amenities over the Easter Bank Holiday weekend, one of them being the Car Park at Seapoint. The difficulties we face will go on for some time but our resillience will help us overcome them. Please God we will come through it. Please stay safe.

MASSES

During this time of restrictions - All Masses will continue to be broadcast live via the internet from the Church of the Immaculate Conception on www.termonfechinparish. Masses for the St. Colmcille’s Pastoral area. Mass is at 9.30am: Monday to Friday. On each Monday evening, the Eucharistic Holy Hour from 7pm to 8pm continues via the webcam. If availing of these ceremonies from the Church of the Immaculate Conception, when logging in, please note the letter h instead of the letter k. Let us remember to keep Fr. Paul and all the Priests in the Pastoral area in our prayers as they continue their great work in spreading the faith duing these very difficult times. Easter Ceremonies may have been a little different given the circumstances but still certainly conveyed the true meaning of Easter.

ZAMBIA OUTREACH DURING THE COVID19 PANDEMIC

With Irish parishes continuing to find themselves in financial difficulties as a result of the current pandemic, we should remain mindful of people in the developing world. Termonfeckin Parish established a Zambia Outreach programme back in 2018. Since then your generosity has help raise a substantial sum of money for St. Monica parish. Recently - before the pandemic outbreak, some of that money was used to set up a chicken rearing project and buy a generator to assist with that project. However, whilst support has always aimed to fund income generating projects, times have changed and so it has been decided to use this money to provide food for the people of St. Monica Parish. A “Covid19Fund” has been set up through which the St. Monica Parish committee and the local St. Vincent De Paul can establish a “feeding programme”. A GoFundMe account gf.me/u/xunrmc has also been established which can be accessed through the Parish Facebook page and the parish website (www.termonfechinparish.

Thank you all for your support. Stay home, stay safe.

FR. JOHN MURPHY RIP.

Much sadness has been expressed at the death of Fr. John Murphy O.M.I, late of House of Retreat, Tyrconnell Road, Inchicore and formerly of Sunnyside, Termonfechin. Fr. John was ordained to the Priesthood in 1951 and said his first Mass in the Church of the Immaculate Conception. The work of the Oblates of Mary Immaculate appealed greatly to him and their mission to evangelise and comfort the poor and abandoned led to him undertaking mission work and also spending time in England.

At the Mass, his grandnephew, Fr. Paul Murphy, recalled key moments in the 94 years of Fr. John’s life and the many changes he saw in the Church and through out the world. Fr. Paul also said that Good Friday was no better day in God’s design to come together and grieve and mourn for Fr. John, a day that is an honour. Fr. Paul Byrne P.P said Fr. John’s life was well spent in the service of the Lord.

Many of us will have fond memories of him as on many occasions while home for a break in his native Termonfeckin, he said Mass in both Parish Churches. I and many others also had the privilege of serving Mass alongside Fr. John and he was always most appreciative and complimentary. An absolute gentleman, he will be sadly missed.

Deepest sympathy is extended to all the members of the Murphy families, relations and friends. In line with Government and HSE advice regarding public gatherings, his Requiem Mass was small and private and was broadcast via webcam at termonfechinparish. on Good Friday and his Funeral in the Old Cemetery. A Memorial Service will be held for Fr. John at a later date. May he rest in peace.
