THE LATE JIM MCCULLEN

Jim McCullen Gormanston passed away on April 3rd 2020. Jim was deputy editor of the Drogheda Independent, and a very talented one at that. He had many a scoop down through the years.

It must be nigh on 40 years ago when Jim asked me to do the Mornington notes on a weekly basis, which I did. Other peripheral villages also did likewise.

Deepest sympathy is extended to his wife Margaret, to his daughters Elaine and Sarah, brothers pat and John, sister in law rose, nephews and nieces, extended family and friends. May Jim rest in peace.

THE LATE MARGARET CAFFREY

Caffrey, Margaret (Peggy) (nee McEvoy), Drogheda, (formerly of Mornington) passed away recently in her 92nd year, at Our Lady of Lourdes Hospital, Drogheda.

Peggy is predeceased by her husband James and will be sadly missed by her niece and step daughter, Mary, Mary’s husband Pat, his children Eimear, Brian, Barry, their spouses Philip, Catherine, Emily, grandchildren Maria, Emma, Orla, Hannah, Alana, Ella, Ava, Sofia, Dylan and the extended Nolan and Caffrey families. Also, by her grandnephews Tim, Kevin, grandnieces Gerrie, Ellen, Mary and great grand nephews and nieces, relatives and a wide circle of friends, neighbours, carers and former colleagues in the Cottage Hospital and St. Mary’s Hospital, Dublin Road.

Her family wish to convey their gratitude to the all the staff in Our Lady of Lourdes Hospital especially in Boyne 1, Newgrange 1 and 2 for their dedicated professionalism, kindness and care during Peggy’s illness. Peggy was buried in Mornington old cemetery at 3.00 pm on Monday 6th April.

In these changed circumstances, her former neighbours stood outside their houses in solemn respect as the funeral cortege passed by. The hearse stopped for a few minutes outside her former home at Lower Church Road, Mornington. May She Rest in Peace.
