MATTHEW NOLAN IS A TOPPER!

- By HUBERT MURPHY

CHORD Celtic might not be playing these days, but one of their squad has just gone top of the league - in the Irish music industry.

Matthew Nolan - whose voice has been likened to Lewis Capaldi - released his latest classic last week - ‘ Don’t Cry Over Me’ (produced by his good friend Fionn O’Brien (FOB)) and it has hit number 1 in the general charts on iTunes and the pop charts in the country.

‘ This song has just put me over a total of 1 million streams on Spotify,’ delighted Matthew stated this week.

‘It was written from some past experiences with love and just taking inspiration from general love stories and things that I have heard from friends over the years, things that can come across relatable.

‘I’ve been writing music for years , but feel only from mid 2019 I’ve really found myself as an artist and know what I’m capable of and what I perform best in.’

He has found fans from various parts of the world, ‘Switzerland, Serbia , Lebanon , Brazil .. the list goes on, not only tuning in to the music, but sending me covers of my original songs , and doing their own renditions.

‘For the rest of my career, I just need to keep this up to get to where I know I am capable of getting, it’s amazing seeing people listen to the music I write in my bedroom the amount of times it has been listened to!’

He says the support he gets from Drogheda is brilliant and that includes his colleagues at Chord Celtic. ‘ The lads are the first to share every song and sing along at the shows. I really want people to know how grateful I am for the support and I hope we can continue to grow together! If one of us wins , we all win!’

The club sent their best wishes to the player, who has also said that the proceeds of the iTunes sales goes to the HSE staff on the frontline.

‘Great to see Matt doing so well in his ventures off the field especially for a man who reached double figures for goals in his debut season, you’re a credit to yourself mate,’ the club added.
