Charity single tops the charts for warrior Rían

-

A Duleek man is currently riding high in the charts with his charity single to raise funds for his ‘Little Warrior King’ nephew Rian.

Musician Brian Heavey has released his own version of the iconic Aslan song ‘Crazy World’, to raise money for his sister’s son, who is currently undergoing treatment in Crumlin hospital for leukemia.

“Rian is 22 months and has Down Syndrome, and we are hoping to raise as much money as possible for him so he can receive the best care,” says Brian, who works in a school in Ashbourne.

“I have been playing music since I was 16 or 17 and this was the only way I could think of helping out, and thankfully, it has taken off and is doing really well.”

In fact, the single has been placing in the top slots across the Irish and Global iTunes charts since it debuted last week, reaching number one for a whole week!

“Even though it is doing very well, we know for a while how much we are raising as you only get royalties in every few months with online sales,” he says.

“It was great to be able to record this with Mark Cahill, even though we are both self-isolating, and people have been very complimentary about the song.”

Does he know what Christy Dignam thinks of the version? “I actually know him but I haven’t heard what he thinks of my reworking, but it’s in a very good cause, so I’m sure he wouldn’t mind,” he says with a laugh.

“It’s such a well-known anthem, and is very apt to what is happening right now.”

You can download ‘Little Warrior King’ (Crazy World) by Brian Heavey on iTunes, Amazon and Spotify, and there is also a Go Fund Me page ‘Rian the Warrior’ organised by Lisa Fitzpatrick.
