BIRTHDAY WISHES

Comhghairdeas and best wishes to Christy Lynch, Starinagh who celebrates a significant roundy birthday around this time. The time is just not right for a party presently Christy, but there will be one hell of a shindig when the lock-down is finally over, and we all experience The Great Escape!.

MAY BUSH INITIATIVE

May Day (1st May) in Ireland was traditionally a festival to welcome in the Summer. While this years May Bush Competition has been cancelled, it has been decided to replace the Competition with a May Bush Initiative to show support for Front-line Workers, and also for those workers who are providing essential services during these most trying of times. The idea was floated last week, and has received a very positive response since. We are asking Families to get creative, put up a May Bush (consult Mr. and Mrs Google for ideas), or better still, phone an elderly relative or neighbour, who will be sure to remember the May Bush from yesteryear, and will be able to give you plenty of guidance and advice. Take a photo of your May Bush and send it to us along with the names of those who participated in its making. Photos will be used to create a collage for posterity and will be placed on the Association Facebook Page. Send photos to: 086 3707227. Thanks for your support for those who are going the extra mile for us at present.

RTE & OLDER PEOPLE

In support of people cocooning at this time, RTE has launched a 15 minute programme to help older people to keep active at home. It will be broadcast daily on RTE 1 at 2.20 pm.

MENTAL WELLBEING CAMPAIGN

A reminder about the Mental Well-being Campaign launched recently. The campaign offers support and resources for people to help deal with stress and isolation. It also helps people to maintain well-being and how to cope at home at this time. The website is www.gov/together and the hashtag is #Together.

SCOIL RINCE NI FHAIRCHEALLAIGH

The Farrelly School of Irish Dancing says hello to all its pupils from Baile Ghib, Rathkenny, Castletown, An Uaimh and Teach Raithneach, and regrets that the Class Feis could not be held recently due to Covid-19 restrictions. Dancers are asked to keep up the good work, and practice the exercises and steps allocated on a weekly basis, through online tutorials.

COMMUNITY ALERT

A premises (house and outhouses) in the District was burgled last week. Vacant for a short time, those involved in the breakin obviously have been keeping an eye out for this opportunity. Time and time again it has been proved, these criminals never let up. There are many scams doing the rounds also. Those involved are using the Covid-19 Pandemic as their opportunity, so be extra vigilant. The Broomfield & District Text Alert number is: 086 2193103. Slane Gardai on 042 9824202, Navan Gardai 046 9036100. Don’t forget to test the Socially Monitored Alarms!

PLEASE STAY CONNECTED

Please keep in contact with your relatives and neighbours, especially the elderly, during these challenging times. A phone call will always be welcome as its always good to talk. Give them a call as often as you can. Social isolation leaves people feeling alone and excluded. We all like a chat, so make it a priority to call your neighbours, especially the elderly, on an on-going basis, and see if there is anything you can do to help.
