SINCERE CONDOLENCES

Very sad news came to our village last week with the news that much loved lady Mary Gray (nee Clinton) had passed away. Mary worked in Centra in the village for 18 years and always had the most friendly welcoming face for everyone who crossed the doors. Mary was reared in the village and many would have known her all their lives but whether you grew up in the village or were just passing through, everyone was treated to the same warmth and sincerity. Sincere condolences go out to Marys family and friends at this very sad time, may she rest in peace.

HAPPY BIRTHDAY LIL

A big happy birthday Lil Dowd who had a very important birthday last week. Lil turned 80 and was very pleasantly surprised when her nieces Sandra, Joey and Evelyn organized a drive by with all Lil’s extended family and friends all wishing Lil a very happy birthday. There were banners, balloons and signs galore with lots of horns beeping to mark Lil’s big day . Lil who lives in St. Malachys Avenue, Watery Lane, Tullyallen watched at a safe distance from her house at all the well wishers. Lil, mam to Carol, Ciaran and Paula was also surprised by the novel cake and presents given to her from her grandchildren, friends and family. I am sure there will be more celebrations when our social distancing has passed and we are all back together again.

SWARM SEASON UPON US

News from the Irish Beekeepers is that swarming across the country will take place from now until mid August.

Beekeepers can still help even under lockdown if we follow strict guidelines, but they are aware that they must remain socially distant so please do not approach them while they do their work.

Every swarm collected on a tree is a colony avoided from a chimney or a roof, and in most situations, bees that remain alive! That means they are saving someone money down the line, and saving bees.

There are now 419 beekeepers across every single county in Ireland. Help save our pollinators and help save some vulnerable person the cost of having their roof ripped open.

You can support Swarms.ie by buying delicious Irish honey from numerous national and international award winning Irish Producers on Findyourkeeper.ie. Also please report swarms sighting on www.swarms.ie for urgent assistance

FAIRY DOORS POPPING UP

An Irish company is generously donating thousands of colourful fairy doors to add a bit of magic to the two-kilometre restriction zone for families across the country.

The initiative suggested by the fairies themselves who told the Irish Fairy Door Company that they wanted to put smiles back on the faces of children who are missing their cocooning grandparents or their school pals in lockdown.

The idea is that each home, business or community group will take one door and place it in their front garden or at a local beauty spot where children will see them while out walking the limited route each day.

The kind gesture which is now being rolled out into communities nationwide, started last week in Tullyallen, where two of the company founders, Niamh Sherwin Barry and Oisin Barry, live with their own children. They started the Irish Fairy Doors in 2013, in the deepest part of the recession and I think we were successful because what we were doing was putting a smile on people’s faces at a time when there wasn’t a lot to smile about.

Niamh says “These are unprecedented times and often children get worried because they don’t understand what is happening or what will happen. How do you explain this to a child when the adults don’t really have the answers yet.

“So we were thinking what we could do to put a smile on people’s faces and were delighted when the fairies came up with the idea to dole out the fairy doors to make that 2km walk a magical experience for families.

“They are quite worried about the children who are missing their grandparents, friends or other relatives who they can’t see at this time because of Covid-19 restrictions and want to spread a bit of comfort and happiness.

“They began this campaign in Tullyallen where they live because the people in the community have been so welcoming since they moved there a few years ago.

“They have over 2,000 loose doors that will be available to communities nationwide to brighten up walks and spread that bit of fairy magic.” Further information can be obtained at https://www.facebook.com/ TheIrishFairyDoorCompany/

And true to form the Fairy Doors have been popping up all over Tullyallen.

TULLYALLEN MEDICAL CENTRE HERE FOR ALL CONCERNS

Tullyallen Medical Centre would like to say that people should not feel that you need to avoid contacting us for non-COVID-19 related concerns, as they are aware that the problems which we normally deal with, day in day out, have not gone away, and they are concerned that some people think they need to stay away altogether.

The GP’s are busier with COVID-19 related queries, but quieter regarding other issues. However, they are aware that other concerns such as chest pains, contraceptive needs, urinary tract infections, mental health issues etc. still need their attention. They are aware that this is proving to be a very stressful time and it is more important than ever to look after your mental health. This sort of consult is ideally suited to being dealt with by phone and if scripts are required we can send those directly to your pharmacist for you.

Repeat prescriptions can be ordered by email and sent securely directly to your pharmacy.

Their doors are locked to protect against spread of COVID-19, but we are still open from 08.30 until 18.00 and here for you. So please don’t be afraid to contact them.

You may need to be patient as the booked times for phone or video consults can be unpredictable depending on how the day is going, but they will get to you, and we can help. and they really appreciate everyone’s support at this time.

Wipes, Milton and Thermometers. Simply message them on facebook or Telephone on 041 983 7760 or email on tullyallenpharmacy@gmail.com. Leave a contact number and they will call you when it is ready. Payment can be taken over the phone and local delivery is being done.

They have have a priority service for the over 60’s, carers of vulnerable people and the elderly. This means that between 9.30am and 10.30am these groups will have priority into the pharmacy for whatever they might need. Also a reminder that they have a delivery service available for all over 60s, vulnerable or those isolating.

They would like to say Thank You to everyone who has been messaging in and pre-ordering toiletries and even prescriptions. This is very helpful in reducing congestion on the phone lines and minimising your waiting time in the pharmacy. Please continue to do so.

To Pre-order toiletries in a bid to reduce patient waiting time in the pharmacy and help you #stayathome and ultimately maximise the safety of our customers and staff we are adopting an online ordering system for all stock in the pharmacy. Please private message the pharmacy Facebook page with whatever items you might require, rather than phone so as to keep lines free for essential communication such as regarding prescriptions. Please provide a contact number. They can then give you a call once your order has been processed. They can take payment over the phone and local delivery is available thanks to support from local clubs @Slane GFC, @Glen Emmetts and @ Naomh Mairtin. Alternatively, you can call in and collect in person but again please be mindful that IF YOU ARE SELF-ISOLATING YOU SHOULD NOT BE OUT AND ABOUT!

CENTRA DELIVERIES

Niall and the staff at Centra in the village know that some of the elderly in our community are staying at home as advised and that it might also be a little scary for some customers to go out and get their shopping. If you do not feel comfortable going into the shop, Centra in the village will deliver to your home with no delivery charge (no matter what the cost of your shopping is) Centra would not want to see anybody stuck and says that if you call 041 9830496 with your list they will organize to get your delivery to you. You can pay over the phone if you do not wish to have any contact with the delivery and your shopping can be dropped safely to your door.

THE EMMETS OFFER HELP IN THE COMMUNITY

There have been lots of people on social media offering to help the elderly or vulnerable or others in need of assistance in our parish by collecting groceries, fuel for the fire or prescriptions and the Glen Emmets in the heart of our village is no different.

If you need or know of anyone who needs a little help and is isolated, please contact Joey on 087-8339568 or Cariona on 086-3203675 or Jack on 0872316722
