Larry on his bike for charity

- BY SEAN WALL

THE Covid-19 restrictions hasn’t prevented well known Slane cyclist Larry Clarke from doing what he does best!

Larry has worked tirelessly over the years raising money for various organisations in his community and the local Slane Cairde, Arc Cancer Support Centre and the Alzheimers Society have all benefited greatly from his charity cycles.

A familiar sight around the area the former Rás Tailteann star would cycle most days of the week for about an hour and on Saturdays and Sundays go for a two hour spin. Now that the lockdown is here Larry has made alternative arrangement to get in his daily cycle, and all for a good cause.

The big-hearted Navan Road Club member has set up a ‘Cocoon Roller Cycle’ in his house and he continues to clock up the miles with all funds raised going to frontline workers.

‘It was just a simple idea I came up with to support the frontline heroes,’ Larry said. ‘We seemed to take them for granted until the pandemic arrived but now we know how much we rely on them and the vital work they do in very difficult conditions.

‘ They have always been very supportive to the cycling world any time we ever had an event and I think it would be good for all groups and organisations to do something to support them now at this critical time.’

Larry hasn’t set up a Gofundme page but donation, big and small, can be dropped to his house in Slane or by contacting 087-1762903 for more information.

‘It is for a very good cause and I am confident neighbours and friends and those in cycling circles will donate,’ Larry continued.

As well as the frontline workers Larry also said that it is vital in these times for everyone to support their local businesses and help them get through this difficult time.
