Photo competition to mark cancelled National Bike Week

-

LAST week was due to be National Bike Week but due to Covid 19 and all the restrictions it brought with it, the annual event had to be cancelled.

However local Labour Party Councillors Michelle Hall and Elaine McGinty have launched a photo competition in celebration of World Cycling Day, which was June 3rd and to promote cycling in the Greater Drogheda area and East Meath. They have teamed up with cycling lobby group Drogheda Cycling to offer three gift tokens for Quay Cycles for the best cycling photographs submitted to their social media.

“World Cycling Day is a UN celebration of cycling and all the social, health and environmental benefits that cycling can bring. Cycling meets 12 of the 17 UN’s Sustainable Development Goals and myself & Elaine want to ensure that we are doing all we can to promote cycling in the greater Drogheda area and East Meath”, said Cllr Hall.

“It would be great to see more people out cycling and I am actively promoting safer cycling in the Greater Drogheda area by requesting Meath and Louth County Councils to invest in cycle lanes.

“In the meantime if people want to send us their cycling photos, they could win a voucher for Quay Cycles in Drogheda. We have a €50 and two €25 vouchers for the photos that capture their love of cycling the best,” said Noel from Drogheda Cycling.

Cllr Elaine McGinty, who was co-opted to Meath County Council last week as Senator Annie Hoey’s replacement explained the rules.

“You can post your favourite cycling photos to any of our social media pages: on Facebook Elaine McGinty or Cllr Michelle Hall, Drogheda Cycling on Twitter and @feckinpolitics on Instagram with #droghedacycling,” she told the Drogheda Independent. “Closing date is 17th June. Always remember to be visible when cycling and make sure your bicycle is maintained properly”.
