IN MEMORY.

Sympathy is extended to the family and friends of Michael Mick McLaughlin, Silverstream Road, Stedalt, Stamullen and formerly of Trim in Co. Meath. Mr. McLaughlin was well known across the district of Meath and Fingal, having been a Taxi Driver in Balbriggan for many years.

CURRENT CRISIS.

Steach Maoilín, the newly established Facebook page of Steach Maoilín that had been created for Stamullen village, parish and neighbouring districts at the beginning of the spread of the Corona Virus in Ireland, is continuing to be a huge hit with parishioners, former parishioners and lots of people logging on from neighbouring parishes across the east Meath, south-Louth and Fingal.

The site is full of old photographs, stories, history, memories, articles, old adverts, recollections and parishioners reminiscing about the village and parish in which they grew up in. It is full of interesting images, history & heritage of Stamullen and surrounding townlands and parishes. The population of Stamullen village and parish has been expanding at an alarming rate over the past 15 years or so with new residential housing estates having been erected across the townlands of Gormanston, Stamullen, Cock Hill, Stedalt and Kilbreckstown and, you can bet your sweet life that, every other green field in between Stedalt and Kilbreckstown at the southwestern end of Stamullen village across to the M1 motorway at the north-eastern end, has developer`s eyes already scrutinising it; not indeed that there is a whole lot of green fields and spaces left between the areas I have just mentioned.

Many people that I have spoken with over the past three months while out walking on the rural roads have mentioned that, although the population is growing rapidly, they, who have been resident across the village and parish all of their lives, are now feeling more alone than ever.

Much of this is down to the fact that there are now far more, what we use to refer to as `newcomers` having taken up residencies here, while at the same time, the older `native` population is either dying and/or moving away. So, when the `lock-down` occurred back in March, many, many people who have been residing both in the village area and across the greater parish of Stamullen for many a year or for their entire lives, suddenly felt isolated and alone, reminiscing of older days, older ways, dear old neighbours “long since gone” and then of course there was the fear element of the damn Covid-19 virus. So, in the ever expanding populated area in which we now find ourselves; although we are surrounded by people, there are also many who are also beginning to feel very much like `strangers in their own parish`. It would be wise for local Councillors to remember sometimes that further & continued development and expansion should not always be geared towards the `newcomer` and that the thoughts, concerns, queries and worries, etc. of those who have lived quite happily in a rural setting would like some of that retained. For the moment, the newly formed Steach Maoilín Facebook page is, hopefully, keeping many parishioners and former parishioners in touch and linking up folk who may not have been in touch for a long period of time.

This new Face book Page of Steach Maoilín is therefore keeping people in touch and together at a time of us all staying apart and away from each other, which was the true aim and objective of why the Site was initially set up.

In the meantime, weekly Mass continues Monday to Friday at 9.30am and can be viewed on the St.Colmcille Pastoral Area Oratory, accessible at Termonfeckinparish. or churchmedia. tv.
