Rosevale residents revolt!

- BY HUBERT MURPHY

IT’S a modern day case of the haves and the have nots as residents in Drogheda’s Rosevale estate have been left fuming at recent road resurfacing - and more to the point, the lack of it in the Louth side of the estate.

Rosevale - up to recent times - was the only estate in Ireland divided between two counties.

The hallway of John McLoughlin’s home at No.56 is the boundary line between Meath and Louth and his next door neighbour Sandra Brodigan had her garden shed in Meath - until it was annexed by the Wee County. unty.

For years, the estate has lacked real maintenance and the road surface was never finished - dating back 40 years.

But last week was the breaking point for those living in the Louth side.

A deal was agreed to resurface the estate after a lot of lobbying from Meath councillors, Stephen McKee included.

The tarmac crew came and did a wonderful job, right up the border line, close to No.56.

But there was no joined up thinking and the Louth side remains - potholed and dangerous. .

Sandra Brodigan can’t believe - it.

‘It is a disgrace what has s happened here. The Meath side of the estate now has a perfect road, with great footpaths and everything.

‘ The Louth side is the same as it was 40 years ago. The council are making a joke of us and nobody seems interested.

There is also a huge problem with the street lighting as it goes out evevery six to seven weeks and nobody wants to know. ‘ They just ask, is that the Louth or Meath part of Rosevale,’ she added.

‘Louth CC should be ashamed of this. It is laughable. Could they not have spoken with Meath and agreed to do the entire estate, not just part of it. There seems to be no co-operation between the councils.

‘We are the poor relation, there is no doubt about that. This is just crazy.’

Cllr Stephen McKee from Meath CC visited the estate last week and said he was happy wth the job done, but said that those living on the Louth side needed to be looked after.

The campaign to get the road fixed is now likely to gather momentum.
