Odour on Marsh Rd EPA’s ‘top priority’

-

DEPUTY Fergus O’Dowd has received a response from the EPA about the persistant odour on the Marsh Road.

The EPA has outlined to Irish Water that the increase in odour complaints associated with the wastewater treatment plant ( WWTP) in Drogheda is totally unacceptable.

Irish Water’s resolution of odour issues is a priority for the EPA and we will continue to monitor Irish Water’s progress in resolving these issues.

The EPA carried out a site inspection to Drogheda waste water treatment plant and the surrounding area on two weeks ago in response to public complaints and concerns. The inspectors did detect odours in the community on the day of the site inspection which were attributable to the wastewater treatment plant ( WWTP). They informed Irish Water they had detected odours from the plant and emphasised the necessity for Irish Water to take all necessary steps to resolve and reduce odours from the site.

The EPA instructed Irish Water to resolve and reduce odours from the site, particularly the incoming network influent, primary settlement tanks, sludge tank farm and anaerobic digester. Irish Water submitted their revised corrective action plan to the EPA last week and the EPA has requested Irish Water to provide you with an update on their actions.

Members of the public should report odours directly to Irish Water’s call centre which operates 24/7 on 1850 278 278.
