Pubs and evenings for O/60s

-

THERE has been great debate about pubs reopening and just how confident people will be returning to them.

I think one thing some older people really missed was getting out to the local for a drink, something they couldn’t do for the past number of months.

Are they going to venture out now - who knows?

But I think one element that might help is if publicans introduced certain nights or times for people of a certain age.

They won’t want to go into a packed premises, although what ‘packed’ will mean in the future is anyone’s guess.

But if there was a slot for over 60s only, with social distancing, at some stage in a week, it might be an outlet that will help a lot of people greatly.

Something to ponder in the new normal.

THE outbreak of COVID-19 has certainly not helped Drogheda market, but thankfully it’s back up and running.

The weekly Saturday gathering has been part and parcel of Drogheda life for many decades and it would be a shame to see it go after so many years.

But has the time come for a re-think about how its operated.

During the Fleadh Cheoil, wonderful little tents were erected on Fair Street with various goods for sale.

If this concept was added to the market, but retaining the egg man, perfume, toys and flower sellers, maybe it would attract a lot more interest.

Pictured here are the scenes when the market was under threat some years ago.....but it won that battle too.
