Mhuires, Collon, Baile Talun and the Nicks chase under 14 C’ship glory

SATURDAY next sees a double bill at Dromiskin when the U.I4 Championsh­ip finals will be decided.

The Division Two Final brings together Naomh Mhuire and Collon at 7 p.m. This will be the first appearance of the former in an under age final since they captured the Minor C’Ship back in 1955, while Collon will be appearing in their first ever final.

The Drogheda side are entitled to start favourites by virtue of their more impressive record, having defeated fancied opponents in Sean Treacys, Oliver Plunketts and Valley Rangers en route, while the ruranl side had victories over O’Rahillys, Nalfe Tores and Stars Mhuires have good players in Leo Henry, Barry O’Donnell, Pat Murtagh and Brendan Kelly while best known of their opponents are the Louth duo of Thomas Donegan and Sean Connolly. Referee is John Kelleher and the Paddy Duffy Cup awaits the winners.

The division One Final is at 8.15 when the between St. Nicholas (holders) and Baile Philip.

The former defeated St. Brigids, Newtown Blues and Clan na Gael (after extra time) to book their passage while the Phillipsto­wn - Dunleer side accounted for Ardee and Cooley. The Ballsgrove side, although perhaps a shade below last years side are neverthele­ss a well drilled outfit but will get it hard to overcome their opponents who are the dark horses of the competitio­n having only captured the secondary grade in 1978. The referee is Paddy Arthurs and the winners will receive tc Peter Judge Cup
