A further very successful year was reported at the annual meeting of Mellifont Credit Union. It was stated that membership had gone from 293 to 324 and that shares stood at £34,626. Loans granted came to £24,362. An appeal was made to make ‘79 a “savings year.”

A certain degree of sadness prevailed at the meeting consequent on the recent death of founder member and stalwart worker, Mr. Paddy Healy. He was described by chairman, Mr. Michael Matthews, as a person who led by example, and one who would be greatly missed.

Elections resulted: Chairman, Michael Matthews; vice-do., Dick Cheevers; treasurer, Martin Farrell; assistant, Tommy Duffy; secretary, Detta Byrne; assistant, Bernadette Johnston. Other directors : Noel Hayes, Hugh Russell, Gene Murphy, Jackie Murray, Patsy Walsh, Marjorie Russell and Mary Murphy. Supervisor­y Committee, Mrs. P. Clarke, Mrs. M. Reilly and Mrs. V Clarke. to Mrs. Rice they feel quite normal. ‘Danny says that in time my hands will regain their shape and my knees will lose their stiffness.’

And Mr. Gallagher, has received a letter from another of his patients. Mrs. Mary Coddington of 117 Pearse Park, Drogheda, who has had trouble with her back for “quite a long Time.” She said that after a visit to one of his clinics she was cured.

“I was in agony waiting to go into you,” she writes, “and as soon as you touched my back the pain was gone and I have had no trouble with it since.”
