GAA HELP NEEDED

Sean MacGiolla Eain, Cathaoirleach, CCC says that “With the growth in popularity of Gaelic Games, the demand for match officials is increasing. There are many men’s, women’s and juvenile games being played in our county on an annual basis and the role of the referee is a very important cog of the wheel to ensure all games take place.

Getting involved and becoming a referee is an ideal way of staying involved on match day.

Louth GAA need to recruit new referees within the county in order to maintain the current level of officiating in the game. Many referees have retired over the previous few years and the recruitment of new referee’s has been very low. Should this trend continue, they will shortly be in a position where they may have trouble allocating officials to cover all games.

Louth GAA are asking clubs to help identify men, women and young people within the various clubs in Louth who would be interested in becoming a referee. They are asking every club to identify a few people and forward their name and contact details to them. Louth GAA will contact them and ensure they get the correct help and advice on how to become a referee.

There are so many clubs in the County with no Referees at all and Louth GAA will be asking these clubs to make a special effort.

CHURCH RETURNING FOR MASS

The Parish of Mellifont Fr. Sean and the Parish Pastoral Council are proposing to initially commence the public celebration of Mass on Saturday 4th July at 7.30pm and Sunday 5th July at 11.00 am. These services will continue to be streamed via Facebook live for those unable to attend in person.

To comply with current distancing guidelines the capacity in the church will be much reduced as we will only be able to utilise alternate pews and will have to implement a one way system for entry and exit to the Church, there is also the opportunity to use the Parish Hall where parishioners will be able to watch the Mass streamed through Facebook live and receive Holy Communion.

The role offers the opportunity to be part of a friendly and supportive local faith based community team that is building on our Parish’s strong tradition of inclusion.

If you feel you would be able to assist them in this they look forward to hearing from you. Your help and support is gratefully appreciated as they continue to prepare for the return of Public Masses in our church. Please contact Fr. Dooley 041 9838520.

Arrangements: For the public celebration of Mass are as follows. Only alternate pews inside the church shall be used with two members of the congregation/ bench (unless member of the same household). The capacity of the Church is 45 people. More will be able to be accommodated if from the same family (up to a maximum of 50 people in each of the Church/Parish Hall including celebrants and Covid Stewards)

The Church will operate a oneway system, entering to the left of the church only and there will be a hand sanitizer station at the church entrance. Stewards will guide people to their seat, filling up the pews from the rear of the church first. Those parishioners with mobility needs will be accommodated in the left hand side pews of the Church which will be reserved.

Ministers of the Word /Eucharist are to take seats in the side aisle at the at the right hand side of Church beside the sacristy. At the end of Mass the celebrant will ask the congregation to remain seated until their row is asked to leave by a Covid Steward to ensure no queuing inside the Church. A separate Steward will monitor the side door to allow exit for those with access mobility issues. There will be no offertory collection during Mass. A collection box will be placed at the end of Mass in the porch at the Left hand side and in the exit to the Parish hall.

If the church reaches capacity the Mass will be available for a limited number in the Parish Hall. According to Government guidelines Stewards will monitor any queuing outside the Parish Hall and guide people to their seat – filling up the far seats first. The Eucharist Minister will distribute the Eucharist to the congregation in their seats. Communion will only be distributed into hands and not on the tongue at this time. Diocesan regulations are mandating this as a requirement at this time. The Eucharist will be brought over from the Church to the Parish Hall by a Eucharistic Minister to those members of the congregation who wish to receive.

Following the celebration a thorough cleaning will take place of the Parish hall and Church.

All those participating in the celebration of Mass and the sacraments must ensure social distancing is maintained after mass and not congregate in groups. All possible efforts are being made to facilitate every parishioner to attend the sacraments but government guidelines must be followed at all times. Please make sure to bring copies of all Missalette and leaflets touched home with you.

VOLUNTEERS REQUIRED

Mellifont Parish Tullyallen is now seeking volunteers for stewards to enable them to return safely to Masses in our church and to guide parishioners through the arrangements which will be in place due to Covid 19. They are also seeking volunteers to assist with cleaning of church after our Masses.

Our Church will need to be sanitised when parishioners leave - rather than our sacristan Sandra having to do all this alone, the volunteers/stewards. might assist so that this doesn’t become a huge task for one person.

The role offers the opportunity to be part of a friendly and supportive local faith based community team that is building on our Parish’s strong tradition of inclusion. If you feel you would be able to assist us in this we look forward to hearing from you. Your help and support is gratefully appreciated as they continue to prepare for the return of Public Masses in our Church. Please contact Fr. Dooley 041 9838520.
