SAFETY FEARS ON ROSEVALE STREET

- By HUBERT MURPHY

CHILDREN playing on the street in Rosevale are facing injury after a top quality upgrade on the roads on the Meath side has now left the Louth part of the estate in a terrible state.

Skateboarders have taken to the street to try out the new surface in certain areas, but they are then entering the unfinished and uneven Louth side.

‘ They are hitting the bad spots when they come to Louth stretch and it’s a real danger,’ one resident stated. ‘Meath CC have even put up signs indicating house numbers and areas where those in wheelchairs can cross. The people living in the Louth side of this estate are sick of it all.’

In a statement to the Drogheda Independent, local TD Ged Nash expressed his concerns in relation to the unacceptable delays in completing the Rosevale estate.

He said; ‘Last October, Louth County Council committed to Cllr. Pio Smith and I that work would be carried out to finally “plane and overlay” 400 square metres of road on the Louth side of Rosevale. In a reply to me last week, the Council explained it has been working with Meath County Council in regard to the surfacing of the road in the estate which as we know has a shared boundary.

‘ The response went on to say that Louth County Council has contributed € 7,000 to Meath County Council towards the current works, and that Louth County Council costed the completion works at €70,000.’

The Deputy continued; ‘ The Council says iy does not have the funds to carry out this work in 2020, but that it’s under ‘ serious consideration’ for the 2021 Roads Programme. These delays and the apparent absence of funding is unacceptable to us and we have urged the local authority to carry out this long-awaited work without any further delay. Residents can be assured that I will not let up until this work is completed.’
