RevThomasO’Grady appointed

Rev. Thomas O’Grady from Wexford has been appointed Prior of the Brothers of St. John of God Community, Drumcar. in succession to Rev. James Pidgeon, who has moved to the city.

The revently appointed new chaplain is Rev. Fr. Downey, a member of the Holy Ghost Order, who, for several years, was engaged in missionary work in Africa.

The appointmen­t is also announced of Bro. Camillus. O.H.. as secretary/administra­tor of St. Mary’s Hospital, Drumcar. past few weeks.

So far the response to the renovation fund appeal has been tremendous, over £15,000 has been either donated or raised to date, and Fr. Kevin Moylan, the Augustinia­n Prior, has asked us here in the D.I. to thank the Drogheda townspeopl­e for their tremendous support.

As part of an ongoing programme to raise funds, a number of events have been lined up. These include the appearance of the ever popular Clipper Carlton big band sound in the Star and Crescent Recreation Centre on Friday, October 25.

A ‘football buster’ has also been organised, Cards for the ‘football buster’ at £2 each and for the Clipper Carlton are available in the Augustinia­n shop.

Students of Greenhills College, Drogheda, launched their campaign to have Fr. Rudy Romano released from a Philippino prison with a special Mass in the Augustinia­n Church, Shop Street. Petitions calling for the release of the Redemptori­st priest were signed by many people leaving the 12.15 p.m. lass. The chief celebrant, Fr. Henry McNamara, paid tribute to the girls on their initiative and commitment to the cause of the poor and oppressed.
