Four-goal ‘Feckin make light of difficult Cavan test

NE REGIONAL LGE U12 DIV 3 VIRGINIA 0 TERMONFECKIN WHITE 4

TERMONFECKIN Celtic’s U12 White team made the long trip to Virginia short a couple of players but were boosted by the return of regular defenders Ben and Tammy.

Playing the first half with a strong breeze at their backs but with conditions tricky underfoot, they got off to the best possible start when Kevin scored directly from a corner.

The green and whites doubled their lead soon after when Kayden pounced on a loose ball at the edge of the box and fired to the Virginia net.

The local Cavan outfit appeared to be stunned by the visitors’ rapid-fire start and Ollie, Luke M, James and Tom Mc all went close to adding to Termonfeckin’s two-goal advantage.

However, Virginia then fought back gamely and after a series of corner kicks they thought they had scored a deserved goal, only for it to be disallowed for offside.

In the second half Termonfeckin were now facing into the wind and inevitably they came under more pressure, but with Adomas expertly marshalling the defence they held firm.

A swift counter-attack down the left then saw Luke Mc release Kayden and he slalomed through several attempted tackles before brilliantly tucking the ball away for Termonfeckin’s third goal.

With their tails up the away team pushed for more goals, with Ben going close from long range before Luke M made it 4-0 with a cracking shot from distance.

Indeed, Termonfecking almost added a fifth as a Tom Mc volley fizzed wide following a brilliant team move.

To their credit the Virginia lads came back strongly to create several opportunities, but they were denied the consolation goal they deserved due to a combination of Adam’s good goalkeeping, the post and some last-ditch defending from Tammy.

Best for Termonfeckin were Adomas, Ben, Luke M and Kayden.

TERMONFECKIN: Adam, Ben, Adomas, Luke Mc, Tom Mc, Kevin, Ollie, Kayden, James, Tammy, Luke M.
