Suzanne first past the post in fashion stakes
HANDBAGS AT the ready! The women of Wexford stepped out in style last Saturday afternoon for Ladies Day at the Wexford Races.
Unscathed by the up and down weather conditions, a large number of fashion conscious ladies entered the competition which was judged by RTÉ television host, Maura Derrane.
Speaking afterwards, Maura said: ‘ There were some fabulous outfits on show in Wexford, with simple elegant looks they were just what I was looking out for!’
At the end of the race meeting, Wicklow native Suzanne Eivers was declared the winner. The PhD graduate from Tinahely had just recently gotten engaged to Ronan Rothwell so her win gave her a second cause for celebration. She was delighted to have won a €2,000 shopping spree with Littlewoods Ireland, who sponsored the event.
Suzanne wore a coffee coloured satin dress which featured a satin bow and black lace overlay. Her dress was described as being a ‘Kate Middleton style’ dress. She bought the dress at Ruby Rouge boutique in Gorey.
‘I would wear that dress to death!’ said Suzanne.
She is a firm believer in supporting Irish fashion designers and hopes that more people will follow suit.
Suzanne was accompanied on the day by her friend Sarah Kavannagh from Gorey who was among nine others who were shortlisted in the competition.
The others shortlisted were Una Murphy, Lorraine McMahon, Jean Sorohan, Clodagh Keoghan, Ellen Cass, Anne Marie O'Connor, Sarah Kavanagh, Sarah Cass, Corena Daly. They each received a €100 shopping voucher.
Organisers of the event noted that a large number of ladies travelled from other counties especially to attend on the day.
‘Ladies day is a great day out and is growing in popularity year on year,’ said Michael Murphy, Manager of Wexford Racecourse.
