‘Letters 1916’ set to bring history to life

-

ENNISCORTHY Library is giving members of the public the chance to see what life was like during 1916 across Wexford with a fascinating project on Thursday, April 16, from 6.00-9.00pm.

The ‘Letters 1916’ project aims to recreate what life was like in County Wexford during 1916 by generating an extensive digital archive of letters and photographs from the period. It is brought together by Wexford County Council in collaboration with An Foras Feasa, NUI Maynooth

Members of the public are encouraged to search their family collections for letters written between November 1 1915 and October 31 1916 and to bring them along to this free event.

The team behind the project will be on hand to demonstrate how to scan the letters and photographs and how to transcribe and upload the documents unto the Letters 1916 website.

There will be a series of short talks from the project team and from some local speakers. Attendees can also seek advice on the preservation of their letters.

This is a unique opportunity for the people of County Wexford to play an active role in helping to preserve the county’s documentary heritage during this important period of our history.
