Faithlegg voted ‘Best Golf Resort in Munster 2016’

-

MAKING your members feel like kings is priceless and they will certainly enjoy a great venue like Faithlegg in Co Waterford, which was chosen as the “Best Golf Resort in Munster 2016” by the prestigious ‘Golfers Guide to Ireland’.

A true Championship course — it hosted the Ladies Irish Open Championship in 2000 and 2001— this enticing parkland challenge was designed by the great Patrick Merrigan, taking advantage of mature trees, rolling parkland and no fewer than five lakes.

Opened in May 1993, Faithlegg carries Merrigan’s familiar stamp of difficulty, undulating greens, water hazards and perfectly placed sand traps, all of which, complete and heighten the challenge.

Situated on the banks of the River Suir, just four miles from Waterford City in the heart of the sunny southeast, it measures 6,674 yards from the championship tees and just 6,284 from the whites, making strategy rather than distance the biggest challenge.

The last three holes are truly memorable — a pretty par-3 followed by two stout par-4s — and while the contoured greens can be a challenge, they are smooth and true all year round, adding to the enjoyment of a quality venue.

Long meandering putts are part of the test but even if you fail to hole your share, you’ll love the clubhouse, situated in the tastefully re-modelled coach house at the stately 18th century Faithlegg House. The clubhouse provides fine food and wine and enjoys uninterrupted views of the charming course. If you have worked up an appetite after your 18 holes, The Red Cedar Lounge is a must.
