BLUE EGG TO HOST A UNIQUE EXHIBITION

TO CELEBRATE summer, Mary Gallagher of the Blue Egg Gallery in Wexford has joined forces with Etain Hickey of Clonakilty, Co. Cork, to curate an exhibition called Shoreline featuring the work of 10 makers in various media which will open in Wexford on Saturday, July 2, and continue to July 30.

The exhibition will incorporat­e functional and decorative work in glass, clay, wood, textiles and print by Ann Duggan, John Dunn, Michele Hannan, Nanette Ledwith and Lesley Brothers, who have featured in the Blue Egg Gallery before as well as Angela Brady, Sonia Caldwell, Geraldine Murphy and Jane O’Farrell, who are all making their debut in the John’s Gate Street ven-venue.

Dubliner Angela Brady is a past president of the Royal Institute of British Architects and director of the London-based Brady Mallalieu Architects specialisi­ng in quality contempora­ry design. She is also a TV broadcaste­r and cowrote and co-presented the documentar­y series ‘ Designing Ireland’ on RTÉ last year.

Sonia Caldwell is an art- ist and sculptor working primarily in stone, creating large works and smaller pieces inspired by forms and patterns of the natural world. She also uses paint and natural materials. Ann Duggan is a textile artist and fashion designer based in Wexford. She collaborat­ed on the Ros Tapestry from 2006 to 2010. She exhibits her work regularly with the Harmonics Art Group in the Pigyard Gallery. In 2011 she was a prize-winning finalist in the Na-Na- tional RDS Craft Exhibition.

John Dunn lives in Ferns and studied Architectu­re in UCD before working as a carpenter and builder. He began making kinetic toys and sculptures in 2011 and has won a number of awards in the Sculpture in Context exhibition and Uniquely Dublin competitio­n.

Michele Hannan has a BA in Ceramics Design from NCAD and has exhibited in galleries throughout Ireland. Her work has been included in exhibition­s at the Hunt Museum, the National Craft Gallery and Sculpture in Context at the Botanic Gardens.

Nanette Ledwith studied at the Dun Laoghaire School of Art and University of Ulster. She specialise­s in the creation of decorative wall panels. Geraldine Murphy was born in Massachuse­tts and grew up in Dublin. She establishe­d a jewellery and metal-smithing business in Ireland in 2003.

Jane O’Farrell is a native of Wales who has lived in Cork since 1980. She graduated from the BA in Visual Arts on Sherkin Island through DIT in 2012.

Lesley Brothers studied tapestry design at Edinburgh College of Art and moved to Ireland in 2003 to pursue further textile study in Cork where she is a member of Cork Textiles Network.
