Fairly Tasty in big final upset

Margaret lands nice prize

-

THE VIMMERBY At Stud Open Unraced Stake final was top of the bill last week, and in Thursday night’s decider there was an upset as 5/1 chance Fairly Tasty proved very tasty for owner Margaret Kelly, taking the nice €2,500 first prize.

From trap rise trap two’s Womans Champ set the fractions with trap four’s Fairly Tasty tracking closely on her outside to go to the front down the back.

Trap six runner Bothar Nua Lad put in a big run by the third bend, only to find his path blocked as Tasty set sail for the winning line and ran on to strongly and comfortably hold the renewed effort of Bothar Nua by two lengths.

Droopys Clement made strong late progress after getting trouble at the first bend and was only a head away in third place in a time of 29.23.

Vimmerby was of course the impressive Irish Laurels winner a few years ago and he is hoping to be as successful now in his new stud role.

Well done to John Somers and co. for sponsoring this good stake.

The four-year-old Vaz Te trained by Nick turner recorded his 20th win when he impressively took race eight, an A2.

Showing far superior early pace, he had the race in safe keeping from early on and scored a convincing seven and a half lengths win in a good 29.01.

He is on a roll at the present time, having won three of his last four starts.

Trainer John Kavanagh recorded a double in the week, with Our Little Dolly scoring on Monday while Ravens Jester took race seven on Thursday.

Adopted as a Piercestown man, Stephen Parker enjoyed a best of the night run on Monday when his Airdown Rena proved very strong in the fifth semi-final of the A5/6 Quick Result Stake in 20.04.

Steve is ever-present at Shanks Whelan’s Piercestown kennels and was very pleased with his win.

However, Rena drew trap six in the final and this could prove costly, making it a very open race in my opinion.
