Ballinastragh flying high in Juvenile football
BALLINASTRAGH GAELS are flying high on top of the Gorey Guardian Coiste na nÓg Juvenile football championship Premier A table after beating Naomh Eanna by 3-15 to 3-7 last week.
With one round-robin game to go they lead Glynn-Barntown, who beat St. Martin’s by 3-4 to 1-7, by two points.
In Premier B, Oylegate-Glenbrien smashed four goals past Rathgarogue-Cushinstown and will round out the group stages in top spot if they beat Starlights in their final game on August 1.
There’s a real battle playing out in Roinn 1A after St. Mary’s (Maudlintown) claimed a big win, 4-5 to 1-13, against town rivals Sarsfields. Gusserane also won to move level at the top with that duo while Our Lady’s Island, St. Anne’s and Volunteers are just in behind the trio.
With two games to go in Roinn 1B there’s plenty to play for. With Bann Gaels, Shamrocks and Blackwater all picking up victories last week, just two points separates a top five that also includes HWH-Bunclody and Shelmaliers.
The Roinn 2A group stages ended with table-toppers St. Joseph’s falling to Moguegeen Gaels by 2-12 to 2-8. Kilross Gaels beat Bannow-Ballymitty to also finish with eight points from a possible ten while Crossabeg-Ballymurn edged past Taghmon-Camross.
Ferns St. Aidan’s will finish top of Roinn 2B if they get past Davidstown-Courtnacuddy in their final fixture. Réalt na Mara sit second with Cloughbawn, who beat Ballyhogue by 5-7 to 2-7 in their final outing, ending their campaign in third spot.
In Division 1 of the New Ross Standard Under-14 hurling championship, national Féile winners Faythe Harriers kept up their perfect start to the season with a 4-7 to 1-8 win in Rathnure to stay top of the table. There were also wins for Coilte O’Rahilly’s, St. Martin’s and Naomh Eanna.
HWH-Bunclody remain perfect in Division 2 after a 3-6 to 1-3 win against Buffers Alley. They sit two points clear of a Blackwater side which beat Craanford, and three ahead of Glynn-Barntown who thumped Monageer-Boolavogue. There were also wins for Rapparees and Ferns St. Aidan’s.
Crossabeg-Ballymurn put Ballinastragh Gaels to the sword in Division 3 last week, winning by 6-11 to 1-6, to maintain their one hundred per cent record. Meanwhile, Askamore kept pace with a solid victory against Taghmon-Camross and St. Anne’s took the points without playing against Carnew Emmets.
Adamstown put in a superb performance against Geraldine O’Hanrahans, winning by 10-11 to 2-4, to cement their third place in the table in Division 4. Duffry Rovers got their second win of the year, beating Kilmore by 4-5 to 1-8.
Four of the top five in Division 5 won last week, making the table congested at the summit. Davidstown-Courtnacuddy lead the way after beating Marshalstown-Castledockrell by 0-9 to 1-3. Clongeen’s 4-1 to 0-2 victory against Shamrocks leaves them just a point behind, alongside St. Mary’s (Rosslare) and Cloughbawn.
