SOMETHING HAPPENS

Legends of the late Eighties Irish music scene, Something Happens were one of the Irish bands of the period who trail-blazed a commercial path across the country and beyond. While not recording any more (singer Tom Dunne is a well known radio presenter) they still play live to their adoring fan base. With a catalogue of hit singles at their disposal, the Something Happens. live show is an unmissable trip down memory lane.

MILTON JONES

Milton’s style of humour is based on hilarious one-liners involving puns delivered in a deadpan style. While standup is his forte, Milton has pushed his comedy boundaries through both radio with BBC’s Radio four and writing several books.

JACK L

Our National Treasure, the great Jack L, returns to the Spiegelten­t for another knockout show on Saturday, October 15. With his brilliant band and an all-new self-penned album, Kildare native Jack Lukeman is one of Ireland’s most respected and best loved performers.

PAUL YOUNG

English singer-songwriter Paul Young was formerly the frontman of the short-lived bands Kat Kool & the Kool Cats, Streetband and Q-Tips, his subsequent solo success turned him into a 1980s teen idol. He is famous for such hit singles as ‘Love of the Common People’, ‘Wherever I Lay My Hat’, ‘Come Back and Stay’, ‘Everytime You Go Away’ and ‘Everything Must Change’. This promises to be a very popular show.

AL PORTER

The first name added to the Spiegelten­t Festival Wexford 2016 line-up is the young flamboyant comedian Al porter, who is set to return to the Paradiso Spiegelten­t stage October 20. Al is one of Ireland’s most exciting new stand-up comedians who is both hilarious and charming, well known for his sketches on risqué topics.

THE BOOTLEG BEATLES

Coinciding with the 50th anniversar­y of the Beatles’ last UK tour – and indeed the 25th anniversar­y of the Bootleg Beatles’ first – the band are delighted to be undertakin­g a tour of the UK and Ireland. The Bootleg Beatles have become ‘an institutio­n’ in

their own right with their note-perfect recreation of hits from every era of the world’s most famous songbook. Every tiny detail is meticulous­ly covered from costumes to period instrument­s.

CHRISTY MOORE

Christy Moore remains a relevant force on today’s contempora­ry music scene. His most recent studio album ‘Lily’ was produced by Declan Sinnott and features 10 songs new to Christy’s incredible live repertoire.

FOIL ARMS AND HOG

Ireland’s top comedy trio tour the country this year following sell-out runs at the Dublin and Edinburgh Fringe festivals. In their new show ‘Skiddly Wup’, they showcase a delicious blend of bizarre, surreal and hilarious comedy scenes with outrageous characters and unexpected twists.

RIPTIDE MOVEMENT

Riptide Movement is Ireland’s newest musical export, boasting the kind of rabble-rousing, blue-collar rock’n’roll that should see them become the Emerald Isle’s answer to the Gaslight Anthem, Augustines and Frank Turner.

THE 4 OF US

This Irish band have seven albums under their belt and a back catalogue of memorable songs that have fea- tured on American, British and Irish TV and film soundtrack­s. Brendan and Declan Murphy will be joined by their band for what’s guaranteed to be a crowd-pleasing evening.

RALPH MCTELL

One of the great storytelle­rs, Ralph McTell is celebratin­g 50 years on the road. He made his debut in 1968 with the album ‘Eight Frames a Second’.

KARL SPAIN

This Limerick man is probably best known in Ireland for his TV series Karl Spain Wants A Woman which was a huge success. Not only did he get massive ratings but he also found himself a woman. You may also have spotted him in RTÉ’s Killinasku­lly which he appeared in series five of the TV show as a master of kung fu.

MICK FLANNERY

Everything else doesn’t matter in the long run. But the songs remain. They’re going to be here for many years to come so they deserve to be treated with due care and utmost respect in the creation process. Mick Flannery is an artist who realised this a long time ago. He also realised songwritin­g is the best part of his strange job.

MIKE DENVER

This show is an excellent mix of Mike Denver hits, country classics and middle of the road hits. Armed with his big band and guests, this promises to be a night to remember.

LITTLE GREEN CARS

Little Green Cars were still in their teens when they were spotted and signed to Glassnote and recorded their 2013 Absolute Zero with producer Markus Dravs. That album changed their lives, taking the five former school friends on tour everywhere from Europe and Australia to Russia and the States, which they crisscross­ed six times in three years. Now all in their early 20s, Little Green Cars are both a different band and the same five friends who met every Sunday aged 15 in singer Stevie Appleby’s garden shed to start writing songs.
