GREAT LINE-UP IS SET TO SEE TOWN PACKED
THOUSANDS of festival goers are expected in Gorey over the bank holiday weekend as the eighth annual Gorey Market House Festival serves up three free open air music concerts and an action packed programme of family events.
Town and District Manager Amanda Byrne said that the Gorey Market House Festival is one of the South East’s biggest festivals. ‘We are expecting over 30,000 visitors to the town to enjoy the free festivities,’ she said. ‘ The festival has a huge economic impact on the town annually and the organisers have been planning the 2016 programme for months. It’s set to be a fantastic weekend to be in Wexford.’
The first of the concerts is on Friday, July 29, with Seo Linn taking to the stage. On Saturday, July 30, Cry Before Dawn return to their Wexford roots, and on Sunday, July 31, Paddy Casey will headline the stage on Gorey’s Main Street.
From the 1980s onwards, Cry Before Dawn were one of Ireland best loved bands. Their albums ‘Crimes Of Conscience’ and ‘Witness For The World’ went double platinum.
The Gorey Market House Festival also offers daytime family events. On Saturday, there’s a family fun day in Gorey Town Park with street theatre, magicians, stilt walkers, Kia Ora Mini Farm, Pirates Cove train, soccer, tag rugby, arts and crafts, face painting, live music and cartoon characters.
On Sunday, Gorey’s Main Street will be transformed to give visitors a real market town experience with live animals, vintage steam engines and great displays of local craft and food. Visitors can also enjoy art exhibitions at various locations throughout the town.
The festival organisers are also celebrating the strawberry and fruit growing industry in Wexford by holding a Strawberry Symposium in Gorey Library this week. The results of the competition to find Ireland’s best pot of jam will be announced on Wednesday. For more details see visitwexford.ie
